Alshon Jeffery To Miss At Least First Two Weeks Of Season

Aug 29, 2018 9:02 AM

Alshon Jeffery is expected to miss at least the first two weeks of the season, but the Philadelphia Eagles will activate him to the roster with optimism he could be back by Week 3, according to sources.

While speaking with the media, Doug Pederson remained noncommittal about the wide receiver's status.

Jeffery underwent shoulder surgery in February following Philadelpha's Super Bowl victory.

If Jeffery remained on the PUP list, he'd be forced to miss the first six games of the season.

Doug Pederson Loses Patience Over Questions About Carson Wentz

Aug 27, 2018 8:18 AM

Doug Pederson wasn't in the mood to discuss Carson Wentz's health while speaking with the media on Sunday.

Pederson was uncharacteristically short in his responses and showed his frustration after a follow-up question related to Wentz's process in his return from a torn ACL.

"I don't know how many times I can answer this question," the Philadelphia Eagles coach said. "When they clear him, he'll be cleared. I'm not going to put myself in a box, I'm not going to put my quarterback in a box. I'm not going to do that. And I'm not going to go on a limb and I'm not going to say that. So either ask it a different way or otherwise you're going to get the same answer."

Wentz resumed 11-on-11 work in practice last Sunday and has been splitting first-team work with Nick Foles. His goal has long been to be ready for the season opener on Sept. 6.

"I mean, he's getting evaluated every day, if that's what you want," Pederson said. "He's part of the rehab process. He's getting evaluated at practice, he's getting evaluated by the medical team, he's getting treatment just like Jason Peters is, just like Darren Sproles is -- you guys don't ask me about those guys -- Jordan Hicks, Chris Maragos. Those guys are in the same boat and they are getting evaluated every day."

Carson Wentz Still Not Cleared For Contact

Aug 26, 2018 1:06 PM

Carson Wentz has still not been cleared for contact with the Philadelphia Eagles' first game of 2018 less than two weeks away.

Doug Pederson said he would like to give Wentz at least one week of practice before he plays.

The Eagles will start Nick Foles at quarterback until Wentz is healthy enough to return.

Doug Pederson Disputes Claim He's Disappointed With Nick Foles

Aug 24, 2018 8:46 AM

After FOX reported during Thursday night's preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns that Doug Pederson was disappointed in the performance of Nick Foles, the coach pushed back.

The Eagles failed to score in their third preseason game.

"Not Nick," Pederson said about his disappointment. "Offensively. We had six possessions. We had two interceptions, two fumbles. We had a sack safety, and we had a turnover on downs. That's an offensive performance, so I was displeased with what our first offense executed. ... I'm disappointed in the offense. I don't want to single out one player, so don't put this all on Nick. I'm disappointed in the offense. It's obviously not what you want in the third preseason week."

Pederson tempered his disappointment in the offense by pointing out that preseason games entail a different level of planning and adjustment.

"[Foles] finished the season pretty well last year," Pederson said. "We know who he is and what we need to do to get him ready to go, and again, we're still pretty vanilla offensively. We haven't done any of our [run-pass option] game. Those are all things that are part of his strengths, too, so we've got to make sure that when we put game plans together moving forward, that we're utilizing his strengths too."

Carson Wentz To Resume 11-On-11 Team Drills

Aug 18, 2018 11:34 PM

Carson Wentz will resume 11-on-11 team drills at practice on Sunday.

Wentz was given the green light after meeting with the team's medical staff and coach Doug Pederson, among others.

Wentz has not been ruled out from opening the 2018 season on Sept. 6 as the Eagles starter against the Atlanta Falcons. He has been rehabbing his left knee that underwent surgical repair of a torn ACL and LCL after being injured in a Week 14 win over the Los Angeles Rams last Dec. 10.

Wentz himself last week said it will be "close" as to whether he will be ready for the season opener.

Nick Foles 'Optimistic' After Shoulder Strain

Aug 17, 2018 9:25 AM

Nick Foles left Thursday's preseason game against the New England Patriots with a right shoulder strain.

Foles was hit by Adrian Clayborn in the second quarter and the ball was knocked loose. Ja'Whaun Bentley scooped up the fumble and ran 54 yards for a touchdown.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback grabbed his throwing arm as he went to the turf. He was evaluated inside the trainers tent before returning the sideline.

"It was just the shoulder. It just sort of got jarred in a funny way as I was following through," Foles said. "But it feels good. We'll check it out tomorrow more thoroughly."

Doug Pederson said Foles would have played one more series had he not gotten hurt.

Foles is "optimistic" about how things will play out.

"I'm going to do everything I can to get back on the field and hopefully practice the first day we get back practicing [Sunday]," he said, "and be ready to roll."

Nick Foles Will Play Against Patriots, Carson Wentz To Be Re-Evaluated

Aug 15, 2018 8:29 AM

Nick Foles didn't play in last week's preseason game, but he'll see some action against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

The Super Bowl LII MVP has been dealing with spasms in his trapezius/neck.

Doug Pederson said Foles will "get a few plays" and expanded on how he views playing starting quarterbacks in the preseason.

"I can't speak for other teams and how they do things, but I feel it's important that the starter still maintains timing and rhythm and just getting in the game action," Pederson said. "Getting in that environment with crowd noise, another team. Game is a little faster. And just staying sharp from the quarterback's perspective. So that's what we try to do with our guys, our starters here. So, I do think it's important that our guys do play leading up to Week 1."

Carson Wentz still hopes to start Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, but the timing will be close as he recovers from a torn ACL. The Philadelphia Eagles will re-evaluate Wentz this weekend.

Eagles Sign Christian Hackenberg

Aug 12, 2018 9:11 PM

Christian Hackenberg has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles contend the signing has nothing to do with the health status of Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. Wentz is coming back from a torn ACL and LCL, while Foles is dealing with neck spasms.

Hackenberg, the former second-round pick out of Penn State, was unable to beat out his competition in two seasons with the New York Jets. He was traded to the Oakland Raiders in May for a conditional seventh-round pick. The Raiders waived him in June, however, negating the trade.
