Eagles Won't Rule Out Trading Nick Foles

Feb 28, 2018 5:07 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have openly talked about the potential of trading Nick Foles this offseason.

Foles stepped into the starter's role when Carson Wentz tore his ACL in December.

Foles comes with a 2018 cap hit of $7.6 million, making him a pricey backup for the Eagles but manageable insurance in case Wentz is slow to return.

"We're trying to keep as many good players as possible, and you're talking about a Super Bowl MVP," Roseman said. "He's been unbelievably successful for us, he's got great character, great leadership. That room is exactly what we're looking for. We have a franchise quarterback [in Carson Wentz], we have a Super Bowl MVP, and we have a young quarterback [in Nate Sudfeld] that we're excited about as well, so that's kind of how we're looking at it as we get started in the offseason."

Doug Pederson: If Carson Wentz Were Healthy, He'd Have Been SB LII MVP

Feb 22, 2018 8:33 AM

Doug Pederson isn't buying into the theory that the Philadelphia Eagles were better off with Nick Foles instead of Carson Wentz on their run to a Super Bowl title.

Pederson told Rich Eisen that if Wentz had been healthy, he'd have been the playoff hero and been named Super Bowl LII MVP.

"Carson Wentz was the MVP talk of the league last year," Pederson said. "I truly believe if he's healthy, and I still feel strongly that we're in the Super Bowl and winning the Super Bowl with Carson. And he's the MVP. I just think that's the way he played last year. He's a big reason. He's not the only reason, but he's a big reason why we were, I believe, 11-2 at the time, playing the Rams, and won the NFC East. For me, being a former quarterback, to have two guys, and really three guys, you throw [Nate Sudfeld] in there, but you're talking about Nick and Carson who you just don't bat an eye with either one of these guys. The way they prepare, the way they study, their demeanor on the field, their leadership styles. It's a blessing to have two veteran guys like that and have a Super Bowl MVP as your backup."

It remains to be seen if the Eagles will retain Foles as their No. 2, or trade him.

Carson Wentz: Knee Injury Won't Change How I Play

Feb 14, 2018 8:17 AM

Carson Wentz won't change his style of play despite tearing his ACL and LCL late in the regular season.

"I definitely won't change, so to speak. That's what made me successful this last season and my whole career," Wentz told Sports Radio 94WIP. "It is something I've learned since coming into the league -- how to protect myself ... I am not going to let this change me."

Wentz continues to rehab from the injury suffered on Dec. 10, ditching the crutches and throwing on the field prior to Super Bowl LII. There is no guarantee he'll start for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, but that's his goal.

"That is definitely my goal. Timetables and all those things are always such a fluid thing," Wentz said. "Obviously can't come out and make a declaration on anything, but my goal is to be playing in Week 1."

Jason Kelce Worried About Jeffrey Lurie's Response To Parade Speech

Feb 13, 2018 8:51 AM

Jason Kelce entered himself into Philadelphia lore last week when he delivered an impassioned speech from the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at the end of the Eagles' Super Bowl parade.

Kelce used profanity and made some controversial comments during the speech and told WMMR in Philadelphia that he worried about how owner Jeffrey Lurie, coach Doug Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman would respond.

"I didn't know how Howie or Doug or Jeffrey were going to take this, which was one of the things I looked at when I actually watched the [speech]," Kelce said. "After the speech, I'd been at the parade all day and wondered, 'Did I say anything stupid? Did I do anything dumb?'"

There has been no sign of any negative reaction from the organization.

Lane Johnson Calls Patriots A 'Fear-Based Organization'

Feb 12, 2018 8:56 AM

Lane Johnson took some shots at the New England Patriots during a recent interview, calling the AFC champions a "fear-based organization" where the players don't have fun.

Johnson made his comments to Barstool Sports, several days after the Philadelphia Eagles upset the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

"I just think that the Patriot Way is a fear-based organization," Johnson said on the Pardon My Take podcast. "Obviously, do they win? Hell yes, they win. They've won for a long time. Do I think people enjoy and can say, 'I had a lot of fun playing there?' No, I don't. That's just the God's honest truth."

Johnson also criticized the Patriots' interactions with the media.

"They're successful, but when they go to interviews, they act like f---ing robots," he said. "Hey, stop being a d---head. We can be cordial for a little bit. You only get to do this job one time, so let's have fun while we're doing it. Not to be reckless, but I'd much rather have fun and win a Super Bowl than be miserable and win five Super Bowls."

Vikings Hire John DeFilippo As Offensive Coordinator

Feb 9, 2018 10:24 AM

The Minnesota Vikings have named John DeFilippo offensive coordinator to replace Pat Shurmur.

DeFilippo joins the Vikings as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2018 after serving as the Eagles quarterbacks coach during their Super Bowl-winning 2017 season. DeFilippo spent two seasons (2016-17) as the Eagles quarterbacks coach after spending the previous season as the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.

“We are very excited to add John to our staff. We took our time with the search and made sure we left no stone unturned to get the right fit. He has a track record of success and has proven to be a great teacher. We feel John will have good chemistry with our team and we are all eager to get to work,” said Mike Zimmer.
