Jalen Hurts Will Start For Eagles Against Cowboys

Dec 22, 2020 6:51 AM

Jalen Hurts will remain the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The rookie has had two strong starts since Doug Pederson pulled Carson Wentz earlier this month.

"He led the team. He played mentally and physically tough, which was good to see," Pederson said of Hurts' performance in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals. "He extended plays with his legs. He had to throw probably more from the pocket because of the nature of the game and getting behind early in the football game. I guess the biggest thing is just leading the team and keeping the guys engaged for the entire game and gave us a chance there at the end."

Carson Wentz Wants Out If Jalen Hurts Remains Eagles' Starter

Dec 20, 2020 3:07 PM

Carson Wentz has no interest in being a backup quarterback and would want to move on from the Philadelphia Eagles if Jalen Hurts remains the starter, according to sources.

Philadelphia's quarterback situation remains fluid with three games left this season, but Wentz is not pleased with the way events have unfolded in the organization.

Hurts made his first start last week against the New Orleans Saints and led the Eagles to an upset victory.

Eagles Still Believe Carson Wentz Could Have Future With Team

Dec 13, 2020 2:02 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles plan to keep Carson Wentz and want him to be a major part of their team.

The Eagles still believe in Wentz as a person and a player with the hope he can reclaim his prior form.

"None of this changes the belief that people have in Carson," one team source insisted to ESPN this weekend.

The Eagles replaced Wentz with Jalen Hurts this week and that move could hold for the rest of the season.

The Eagles must make a decision by the second day of the 2021 league year -- sometime in mid-March -- because on the third day of the league year, Wentz's $22 million base salary for 2022 becomes fully guaranteed and his 2021 roster bonus of $10 million also is paid out.

The Eagles could cut Wentz with a post-June 1 release and spread his cap charge over two years.

Philadelphia could also trade Wentz.

Carson Wentz: I'll Keep Pushing Through

Dec 10, 2020 8:39 AM

Carson Wentz is putting on a positive public face in the wake of his benching in favor of Jalen Hurts.

Wentz hasn't spoken publicly, but responded to a young fan on Twitter.

"God's got a plan for me and I'll keep pushing through this like I always do— trusting HIM and giving it everything I got!" Wentz wrote.

The former No. 2 pick is under contract with the Philadelphia Eagles through 2024.

Eagles To Start Jalen Hurts At Quarterback

Dec 8, 2020 1:41 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles will start Jalen Hurts at quarterback in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints.

Carson Wentz will serve as Hurts' backup.

The Eagles signed Wentz to a four-year, $128 million extension in 2019 that doesn't even begin until 2021. Wentz will count nearly $35 million on Philadelphia's cap next season. The Eagles would have a $59 million dead cap penalty if they were to cut him.

Doug Pederson Won't Commit To Quarterback For Week 14

Dec 7, 2020 9:03 AM

Jalen Hurts replaced Carson Wentz in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers, but the Philadelphia Eagles aren't ready to commit to a starter going forward.

"Let me get through this game," Doug Pederson said when asked who would start next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. "There's a lot of things I'm going to consider and evaluate before anything is decided."

Hurts finished the game 5-for-12 with 109 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also ran five times for 29 yards.

Wentz was 6-for-15 with 79 yards and 18 yards on 3 rushes before he was pulled.

Eagles Bench Carson Wentz For Jalen Hurts In Loss

Dec 7, 2020 9:08 AM

Jalen Hurts replaced Carson Wentz midway through the third quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles' 30-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon.

The second-round rookie finished 5-of-12 for 109 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing five times for 29 yards. Wentz had been 6-of-15 for 79 yards and was sacked four times.

Hurts played just 33 snaps over Philadelphia's first 11 games.

Wentz received a four-year, $128 million extension worth more than $107 million in guaranteed money prior to the 2019 season. The deal ties him to the Eagles through the 2024 season.

Doug Pederson Given No Assurance He'll Finish Season

Dec 3, 2020 8:51 AM

Doug Pederson has received no assurances from the front office that he will remain the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the remainder of the season.

"Listen, I've been around this league a long time, 25 years I believe as a player and a coach, and we're always based on and evaluated on our performance," Pederson said. "Right now, that's obviously not my concern as far as that decision goes. That's out of my hands. But what's in my hands and in my control is getting the team prepared and ready for Green Bay this weekend."

The Eagles are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, dropping them to 3-7-1 on the season.

Pederson said that temporarily giving up playcalling is "on the table" -- the first time he's been open to the idea publicly -- but suggested a change there wasn't imminent.

DK Metcalf Makes Eagles 'Pay' With Career-High Night

Dec 1, 2020 9:29 AM

DK Metcalf caught 10 passes for a career-high 177 yards in the Seattle Seahawks' 23-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Metcalf had a breakout performance in Philadelphia back in January when he set an NFL rookie postseason record in Seattle's wild-card win over the Eagles.

"It's kind of like coming home," the second-year receiver said. "A place that had a chance to draft me but didn't, so I've got to make them pay."

Metcalf has a league-leading 1,039 receiving yards through 11 games. He accounted for 77% of the Seahawks' 230 receiving yards Monday.
