Malcolm Jenkins: Jaguars Are Proof Colin Kaepernick Deserves Job

Oct 25, 2018 8:33 AM

While preparing to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, Malcolm Jenkins says he saw proof that Colin Kaepernick deserves a job in the NFL.

There has reportedly been a riff between Jenkins and Eric Reid, who share a place on the the Players Coalition. The issues spilled over onto the field during this past week's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers.

Reid disagreed with an agreement between the Players Coalition and the NFL in which close to $100 million was earmarked for causes considered important to African-American communities. Reid wanted Kaepernick to have a bigger influence and said Jenkins "co-opted with the movement that was started by Colin to get his organization started. It was cowardly. He sold us out."

Jenkins refused to take shots at Reid, but did issue support for Kaepernick.

"While our main focus is always on the community and those systemic oppressions, how we can leverage our relationships, our access and resources to help people in everyday communities, there is still a responsibility to speak out on Colin Kaepernick, who started this movement and still doesn't have a job," Jenkins said. "I wholeheartedly believe he is being blackballed, to speak out in support of Eric Reid, who put his job on the line to fight for those who didn't have a voice.

"I have always maintained every chance I get to say, Colin Kaepernick started this, Eric Reid deserves a job, Colin Kaepernick deserves a job. I can turn on the tape this week and our opponent and see Colin Kaepernick deserves a job. But at the end of the day, when I started this, my personal journey to help my own communities, it was never about the NFL or anybody having a job in the NFL. It was about people -- everyday citizens where I come from, where I live in Philly, and all across this country. And so at the end of the day, my decisions will always be about people."

Sean McDermott Doesn't Dismiss Eagles' Interest In LeSean McCoy

Oct 11, 2018 8:37 AM

Sean McDermott did nothing to dismiss a report on Wednesday that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in trading for LeSean McCoy, who they traded to the Buffalo Bills before the 2015 season.

"LeSean is one of our better players," McDermott said. "I thought he had a good game [in Sunday's 13-12 win over the Tennessee Titans]. Really, we're just looking forward to playing the Houston Texans [this Sunday].

"We get calls all the time. Incoming calls happen all the time. [General manager] Brandon [Beane] and I talk a lot. I won't go into any more detail than that. Really, again, this is a big week for us. Another opportunity to get better. Another opportunity for us to develop as a football team against a very good opponent, in particular down there in a tough place to play."

The Eagles placed Jay Ajayi on injured reserve with a torn ACL earlier this week.

Asked specifically Wednesday if the Eagles had contacted Buffalo, McDermott said, "I'm not gonna go into any more detail than I said."

Eagles Restructure Fletcher Cox's Deal To Create Cap Space

Oct 9, 2018 8:22 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles restructured the contract of Fletcher Cox to create cap space, but won't use it to trade for Le'Veon Bell, according to sources.

The new deal creates $6.5 million more cap space for the Eagles this season and $11.7 million more for next season.

The Eagles placed Jay Ajayi on injured reserve with a torn ACL on Monday, but Bell isn't in their plans.

"It's 100 percent misleading to think Cox's restructuring was done with Le'Veon Bell in mind," said one league source.

Carson Wentz: Struggling Eagles Have To Look In Mirror

Oct 8, 2018 8:45 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-3 after a 23-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game.

The glow surrounding the Eagles' Super Bowl title has quickly dimmed.

"Were 2-3 because we're playing bad," Chris Long said. "It's one and the same. Right now we are playing like we suck. That's the reality. We can say we're better than this all we want. But unless we play better, we're not."

Coming off a torn ACL, Carson Wentz returned to the field in Week 3. The Eagles are 1-2 with him as the starter.

"We've got to take a look at ourselves in the mirror," Wentz said. "Three straight penalties. ... Little mistakes like that are just killing us. We're playing like we're a young rookie team and we're not."

Doug Pederson Wants Eagles To Have Sense Of Urgency

Oct 2, 2018 9:02 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2 after giving up a 17-3 second half lead in what turned out to be an overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Doug Pederson hasn't ruled out personnel changes, but emphasized the need for everyone on the team to find a deeper sense of urgency.

"Our understanding that for us to play like champions, first of all, we have to understand that we are champions, and you have to play, you're expected to play a certain way," Pederson said.

"Coaches and players here in Philadelphia with the Eagles, and it is my expectation. When you don't live up to that expectation, we need to just zero down on it and figure out why. The sense of urgency from players and coaches needs to heighten just a little bit. It's not a panic mode, but it's a heightened awareness of who we are as a football team, where we want to get to and we have to eliminate these penalties because they're coming at the wrong time and turnovers are coming at the wrong time. Really there's no good time for any of them, but that's just what's happening. We just have to keep coaching them."
