Tyler Lockett Signs Three-Year, $31.8M Extension With Seahawks

Aug 29, 2018 3:13 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have signed Tyler Lockett to a three-year, $31.8 million contract extension.

The deal has a maximum value of $37.8 million and $20 million guaranteed.

The 25-year-old Lockett was entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Lockett suffered a compound fracture of his leg in a Christmas Eve game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Lockett made it back by the start of last season but estimated recently that he was playing at about 75-80 percent while coming off the injury.

Pete Carroll: Seattle's Roster Changes Feels Like College

Aug 27, 2018 10:09 AM

The Seattle Seahawks have gone through as much roster upheaval as any still competitive team in recent memory.

Pete Carroll compares the experience to his time at USC.

“This feels like when you’re in college,” Carroll said. “That senior class graduated—those guys that did all the playing for you. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good team next time around. New players, new coaches. There’s new juice about everything that we’re doing. I go back and do all my teaching again. I’m really happy about it.”

“I mean, this is what the league is now," said John Schneider. "We move guys all the time. For a while, we were able to reward guys here at the top of their positions. Then we had to make decisions—who to keep and who not to keep—and we got the bad injury news on Cliff Avril and Kam Chancellor [forced to retire due to injuries]. We didn’t see those coming.

“But there’s another thing. You know Pete. He preaches competition, open competition, every single day. It’s hard to preach that when you got the best corner and the best free safety and the best strong safety and the best middle linebacker, all young, and you know those guys are locked in there. They were the youngest team to win it all. You don’t tear that apart.

“Now, this. It’s fun. Lots of enthusiasm. So much spirit, so much new. It’s pretty cool.”

Ten-Year DVOA Rankings: Seattle Seahawks

Aug 26, 2018 9:02 PM

Beyond strictly looking at wins and losses, DVOA by Football Outsiders gives a clear picture of team performance.

The following Infographic shows the past 10 years of DVOA rankings (2008-2017) for the Seattle Seahawks.

Finishing first in DVOA over the first four seasons of Russell Wilson's career was an extraordinary run for the Seahawks. In hindsight, winning only one Super Bowl could be considered a missed opportunity for Seattle. The Seahawks could drop even further in 2018 as they remake their roster.

Chris Carson Holding Off Rashaad Penny To Start As Seattle's RB

Aug 21, 2018 4:24 PM

Chris Carson is leading Rashaad Penny for the starting running back job with the Seattle Seahawks.

Pete Carroll said everything Carson has done this offseason "has just been top drawer."

Penny was the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Penny suffered a broken finger that required surgery.

Penny is expected to be back by Week 1, according to Carroll, and he figures to still have a sizable role in Seattle's offense as a rookie.

Seahawks Surprisingly Release Marcus Smith

Aug 18, 2018 11:52 AM

The Seattle Seahawks have terminated the contract of Marcus Smith in what was a surprise move.

Pete Carroll said "some personal reasons" factored into Smith's release. He said earlier in the week that Smith's absence from practice was due to a family issue.

Carroll said Smith's health wasn't an issue. Asked if Smith had requested his release or if it was a mutual decision or the team's choice, Carroll paused and said: "We talked through the whole thing. I just kind of want to leave it alone because it's personal stuff and I'd just like to leave it there."

Smith recorded 2.5 sacks in a rotational role for the Seahawks last season after the Philadelphia Eagles, who had drafted Smith in the first round in 2014, waived him before training camp.

Rashaad Penny To Miss 3-4 Weeks Following Finger Surgery

Aug 15, 2018 8:40 AM

Seattle Seahawks rookie Rashaad Penny will undergo surgery Wednesday morning to repair a broken bone in his finger, according to a source.

The surgery is expected to sideline Penny for three to four weeks, which would put his status for Week 1 in question.

Prior to the injury, Penny was battling Chris Carson to be Seattle's top running back.
