Andrew Luck Misses Practice With Foot Injury

Aug 28, 2018 8:09 AM

Andrew Luck didn't practice Monday because of a "minor" foot injury suffered in Saturday's preseason game.

Frank Reich said Luck could practice on Tuesday and he'd be ready to go if the season started this weekend.

The Indianapolis Colts wrap up the preseason on Thursday, but it had already been determined that Luck would sit the contest out.

Luck suffered the injury when he scrambled for 15 yards before being caught from behind in the second quarter in the team's third preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

"Really, once you look back at that play, you're at the point of no return once you take it up inside," Reich said. "If you're going toward the boundary, that's one thing -- you can protect yourself. But once you kind of take it up the middle and there's a guy chasing you from behind, you're kind of committed to go finish that thing out. I think it was the right decision."

Ten-Year DVOA Rankings: Indianapolis Colts

Aug 26, 2018 8:59 PM

Beyond strictly looking at wins and losses, DVOA by Football Outsiders gives a clear picture of team performance.

The following Infographic shows the past 10 years of DVOA rankings (2008-2017) for the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts quickly dropped to the bottom of the NFL in DVOA when Peyton Manning was lost for the season in 2011 and jumped back up in Andrew Luck's second NFL season. That run has been short lived as the Colts had limitations in roster construction around Luck and then injuries he's suffered.

Andrew Luck Gives Himself Passing Grade For Preseason

Aug 26, 2018 5:35 PM

Andrew Luck is pleased with how he performed in what amounted to 11 series in three preseason games for the Indianapolis Colts.

More important than wins and losses or stats, Luck's surgically repaired right shoulder was hit numerous times.

"I'm not going to give a letter grade. Sorry," Luck said. "Pass or fail? Pass."

When the Colts open the season on Sept. 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Luck will be playing in his first regular-season game since Week 17 of the 2016 season.

"Other than making sure he was good physically, I really didn't have very many questions," Frank Reich said. "I think you guys know how I felt about this thing from the very beginning. I just had a lot of confidence in him and the people around him. The process that he's going through, seeing him work every day, seeing his attitude, really had not too many doubts."

Andrew Luck 'Very Encouraged' Despite Sloppy Outing

Aug 21, 2018 8:21 AM

Andrew Luck came out of Monday night's preseason game between the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens "very encouraged."

It was just his second game in 19 months. The Colts' offense sputtered in their first five series in the 20-19 loss at Lucas Oil Stadium.

"I told someone after the game, 'I'm sort of happy to get sacked by [Terrell] Suggs, a legit sack,'" Luck said. "I landed on my right elbow sort of reminiscent of how I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago [in Week 3 of the 2015 season]. I didn't feel anything. Didn't give it a second thought. That's a big deal for me, being able to lose that thought bubble."

Luck was 6-of-13 passing for 50 yards, with an interception along with being sacked twice in 23 plays.

The first-team offense gained a total of 44 yards. Luck referred to their performance as being "sloppy" several times during his postgame media session.

"We turned the ball over, [and] my experience tells me that protection at times was not great," Frank Reich said. "We just didn't find a rhythm for him. I felt maybe there were one or two throws that weren't his best throws, but overall, it's usually not as bad as you think or as good as you think. Still have a confidence in a direction we're headed offensively."

Andrew Luck 'Felt Natural' In Return To Field

Aug 10, 2018 8:43 AM

Andrew Luck reported no issues after taking the field for the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night for the first time in 585 days.

Luck led the Colts on a pair of scoring drives that ended with field goals against the Seattle Seahawks. He was hit twice during his stint.

"It was a little bit of the pressure was off, in a sense, and I really had fun," Luck said. "I really enjoyed it. I didn't quite know if I would have this much again playing football."

He hadn't played since Week 17 of the 2016 season.

"The first play is always a little nerve-wracking in any game, in a sense, but especially this one," Luck said. "After that it sort of slowed down and the rhythm, the flow of a huddle, calling a play, knowing where the play clocks are, getting to the line of scrimmage, showing what your queues are, that operations that takes over. For lack of better word, it felt natural."
