Adam Vinatieri Close To One-Year Deal With Colts

Feb 21, 2018 12:45 PM

Adam Vinatieri is nearing agreement on a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

Vinatieri has made 111 of 123 of his field goal attempts over the past four seasons. Two of those misses came in blizzard-like conditions in Buffalo last season.

Vinatieri is 45 and only 58 points shy of Morten Andersen for the top spot on the NFL's all-time scoring list.

Andrew Luck: 'Ship Has Sailed' On Second Shoulder Surgery

Feb 21, 2018 9:05 AM

Andrew Luck says the thought of having a second surgery on his right shoulder has "sailed."

Luck is continuing rehabilitation on his surgically repaired right shoulder.

"Oh, [surgery] is not an option for me right now," the Indianapolis Colts quarterback said. "I feel very, very good about where I am. So that ship has sailed in my mind, which is also a bit of a relief. I'm not going to lie."

The Colts have undergone almost a complete overhaul in the past 13 months, with a new general manager, a new head coach and likely an entirely new coaching staff. But a significant part of their success in the future will center on Luck's health.

Bill Belichick Had Significant Influence In Josh McDaniels' Meeting

Feb 9, 2018 10:43 AM

During a Tuesday meeting with Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft and Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots made an aggressive pitch to Josh McDaniels.

Sources say Belichick had particular influence in the meeting. While Belichick didn't try to talk McDaniels out of going to the Colts, he knew his offensive coordinator was having second thoughts.

McDaniels received a significant raise from the Patriots and will also be mentored by Belichick in a more meaningful and holistic way.

After hours of meetings on Tuesday, McDaniels was swayed by the Patriots' pitch. He called Ballard, who was in a draft meeting at Colts headquarters, at 7:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and told him he had changed his mind and was “going in a different direction.”

“He called and said he had bad news for me,” Ballard said. “I said, ‘I just need a yes or no answer. Are you in or out?’ We went around for a minute and he said he’s out and I said. ‘OK, we’re going to move forward. I wish you the best of luck.’”

Ballard was “pissed and angry because he was completely blindsided by the whole thing because the process was at the finish line,” according to a source.

McDaniels has turned down opportunities in recent years with the Rams, Browns, Falcons and 49ers.

One source said: “He’s always just insisted that everything be right, or he wasn’t going to leave.”

Colts Have No Legal Recourse Against Josh McDaniels

Feb 7, 2018 8:44 AM

The Indianapolis Colts can't take legal action against Josh McDaniels after he accepted their head coaching position only to change to his mind late Tuesday.

McDaniels hadn't actually signed a contract with the Colts, who contend that the New England Patriots offensive coordinator "agreed to terms."

If he had signed the deal, the Colts could have prevented McDaniels from returning to the Patriots or working for any other NFL team.

Josh McDaniels Backs Out Of Deal With Colts, Remains With Patriots

Feb 7, 2018 8:57 PM

Josh McDaniels has decided not to accept the head coaching position with the Indianapolis Colts to remain with the New England Patriots.

Robert Kraft began talking with McDaniels over the past 48 hours and ultimately improved his contract to convince him to remain with the Patriots.

"After agreeing to contract terms to become the Indianapolis Colts' new head coach, New England Patriots assistant coach Josh McDaniels this evening informed us that he would not be joining our team," the Colts said in a statement. "Although we are surprised and disappointed, we will resume our head coaching search immediately and find the right fit to lead our team and organization on and off the field."

McDaniels had been vacillating on his decision throughout the process.

McDaniels still would like to become a head coach again, but this time, in this instance, he was not comfortable.
