Jim Irsay Reluctantly Extended Frank Reich Before 2021 Season

Dec 28, 2022 8:51 AM

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay admitted in an interview with ESPN that he was apprehensive about extending Frank Reich's contract before the 2021 season, before ultimately doing so.

"I reluctantly gave Frank an extension sooner than I wanted to," Irsay said. "When you see it really, really coming apart, then you realize you have to make that change. Frank's forever part of the horseshoe, and he's beloved. He very well may coach again big-time, and we're rooting for him to do that."

Reich is now owed $36 million over the next four years after he was fired at midseason.

Colts To Bench Matt Ryan, Start Nick Foles

Dec 22, 2022 8:22 AM

The Indianapolis Colts are making another change at quarterback.

Nick Foles will start over Matt Ryan on Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Just didn't feel like we made enough plays offensively," Jeff Saturday said of the Colts' 39-36 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in which they blew a 33-point halftime lead in Week 15. "It's no secret. We haven't converted in the red zone. And ultimately you've gotta make plays in the NFL and we're not making nearly enough explosive plays."

The goal is to start Foles for the final three games, Saturday said.

"Hopefully, he plays well enough and leaves no doubt," Saturday said. "That's the intent."

It's the third quarterback change for the Colts this season. Ryan started the first seven weeks before he was benched for Sam Ehlinger. They went back to Ryan in Week 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jonathan Taylor Unlikely To Play Again This Week

Dec 19, 2022 9:19 AM

Jonathan Taylor suffered a high ankle sprain on Saturday in the Indianapolis Colts' historic loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

While the running back is still meeting with doctors, it's considered highly unlikely he'll play again this season.

The Colts are 4-9-1 with three games left in the regular season. They aren't officially eliminated from the AFC playoff picture, but they'd need a huge collapse from both the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Minnesota Vikings clinched the NFC North title Saturday with -- ho, hum -- the biggest comeback in NFL history.

Powered by a new coaching staff and largely the same roster that had missed the postseason in three of the past four years, the Vikings overcame a 33-point halftime deficit to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 39-36 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Jeff Saturday 'Not Wavering' In Desire To Remain Colts Coach

Dec 14, 2022 8:40 AM

Jeff Saturday hopes to remain the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts past the remainder of this season.

Saturday was hired by Jim Irsay to coach the final eight games of 2022 "and hopefully more."

The Colts are 1-3 under Saturday, who expressed a desire to get the full-time job this offseason.

"I'm not wavering," he said. "I've loved it. I've had a great time."
