Colts Never Seriously Considered Andrew Luck Trade Offers

Apr 30, 2018 10:10 PM

The Indianapolis Colts received trade offers for Andrew Luck in October, but Chris Ballard never took them seriously.

The offers came before the trade deadline, prior to the Colts placing Luck on injured reserve because of complications associated with his ongoing rehab from shoulder surgery.

"Look, we had some calls last year at the trade deadline," Ballard said. "And I just -- come on man. I'm not taking those seriously.

"We're not trading Andrew Luck. I'm not putting that on my resume."

Colts: Trading Down Shows Confidence In Andrew Luck

Apr 23, 2018 11:05 AM

The Indianapolis Colts believe that trading the third overall pick in this week's NFL Draft shows how much confidence they have in Andrew Luck going forward.

"We traded the third pick in the draft to move back to 6," Chris Ballard said. "I think that said we're pretty confident in where he's at."

Luck hasn't thrown a football since October 2017 and the Colts continue to take a methodical approach in his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury. Last month, the Colts dealt the No. 3 pick to the New York Jets for No. 6, two second-round picks (No. 37 and 49) in this year's draft and an additional second-round pick in next year's draft.

Keeping the third pick would have allowed the Colts to grab one of the top quarterback in the draft.

"[We're] very comfortable where he's at," Ballard said. "Working on his strength part of it, throwing motion. But he's in a good spot, guys. I feel good where he's at, feel good about where he's going. Keep working and getting back to playing football. His health is our No. 1 priority."

Dwight Freeney To Retire As Member Of Colts

Apr 20, 2018 8:02 AM

Dwight Freeney will sign a contract with the Indianapolis Colts to retire with the franchise.

Freeney played in the NFL for 16 seasons, eleven of which he spent with the Colts.

"He was a great player in every phase of the game," Bill Polian said. "He was known as a great sacker, but he could play the pass and the run as well. Terrific run player. He gave you everything you had every week. And what made him even more special is that he did it while knowing teams were aiming to try to slow him down every week."

The Colts picked him with the 11th pick in 2002.

Freeney left the Colts after the 2012 season and had stops with the Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks.

Andrew Luck Feeling Better, Hopeful Of Being Ready For Camp

Apr 9, 2018 4:46 PM

Andrew Luck says his surgically repaired right shoulder feels better and is hopeful of being on the field when training camp opens.

"There is a timetable but I'm not going to share it with you guys," Luck said Monday. "I've very, very confident and very, very optimistic I'm going to be absolutely fine and come back better than I was. I'll be a better quarterback, a better teammates, a better person."

Luck has been working with a reduced-sized football to work on his throwing motion.

"There's a process," Luck said. "I've gone and skipped steps before and paid for it. Been in pain and not able to help the team. Embarrassed, guilty, whatever. I'm not going to do that again. I trust the people I'm working with. More importantly, I trust myself in this process. I trust how I feel. Progress is my guiding light. If I'm making progress, I know that's important. There is a plan in place and I'll keep trusting it."

Luck underwent surgery on his shoulder in January of 2017.

"I wouldn't say (I'm) changing my throwing motion," Luck said. "There are things in my throwing motion that I can do better from the ground up and that's a big part of what I've been working on, making sure I'm using my body as effectively as possible to throw a football and not over or under compensate in any way."

Frank Reich Expects Colts To Be More Aggressive On Fourth Down

Apr 5, 2018 10:17 AM

The Indianapolis Colts will likely be more aggressive on fourth down under new coach Frank Reich.

Under Chuck Pagano, the Colts faced 50 scenarios in which it was fourth down with his team leading by 10 or fewer points in the first three quarters. Pagano went for it just three times.

Reich's old team, the Philadelphia Eagles, went for it in that scenario three times in one game last season.

"There's no question that a byproduct of working in Philly and seeing how sometimes conventional football wisdom can be challenged and it needs to be updated in ways," Reich said of fourth-down strategy.. "I think it was indicative of how aggressive (Eagles coach) Doug (Pederson) was on fourth down and the consistency of that and the trust in the players to get it done.

"I think there's a lot to be learned from that."
