Browns Release Mychal Kendricks Following Insider Trading Charge

Aug 29, 2018 9:35 PM

The Cleveland Browns have released Mychal Kendricks after he was charged with insider trading.

The Browns said they were aware of Kendricks' involvement prior to signing him to a one-year deal in June, but "circumstances have changed" and the team has elected to release him.

"I would like to apologize," Kendricks said in the statement released by his attorneys. "Four years ago, I participated in insider trading, and I deeply regret it. I invested money with a former friend of mine who I thought I could trust and who I greatly admired. His background as a Harvard graduate and an employee of Goldman Sachs gave me a false sense of confidence.

"To this point, I had worked my tail off since I was 5 years old to become a football player. I was drawn in by the allure of being more than just a football player. While I didn't fully understand all of the details of the illegal trades, I knew it was wrong, and I wholeheartedly regret my actions."

Mychal Kendricks Charged With Insider Trading

Aug 29, 2018 10:48 AM

Mychal Kendricks has been charged with insider trading tied to investments he made four years ago.

"I apologize. Four years ago, I participated in insider trading, and I deeply regret it. I invested money with a former friend of mine who I thought I could trust and who I greatly admired. His background as a Harvard graduate and an employee of Goldman Sachs gave me a false sense of confidence. To that point, I had worked my tail off since I was 5 years old to become the football player that I am today. I was drawn in by the allure of being more than just a football player. While I didn't fully understand all of the details of the illegal trades, I knew it was wrong, and I wholeheartedly regret my actions.

"Since the beginning of the investigation, I have fully cooperated with all of the authorities and will continue to do so. I accept full responsibility for my actions. Although I did not take any of the profits for myself, I am committed to repaying all of the funds gained illegally and accept the consequences of my actions.

"I sincerely apologize to my coaches, the owners, and my teammates on the Eagles and the Browns, the NFL, and the magnificent fans to whom I owe my career. I also apologize to my family, who I have failed in this. You all deserve better, and I will work my hardest to re-earn your trust and respect, serve as an advocate to educate others, and show you that I will never be involved in anything like this again. Thank you for your time and hopefully your forgiveness."

Jarvis Landry Called Out By Bills For 'Dirty' Block

Aug 20, 2018 8:35 AM

A number of Buffalo Bills defenders called out Jarvis Landry for what they categorized as a "dirty" block on rookie cornerback Taron Johnson in Friday's preseason game.

Johnson, a fourth-round pick from Weber State, blamed himself for not being more aggressive and said Landry later apologized to him.

The Cleveland Browns scored on a 4-yard touchdown run by Carlos Hyde on the play.

"Landry, he's a good receiver, physical guy, but some of those plays that he has -- Aaron Williams, Taron, I'm pretty sure he has other ones -- I just think they're dirty," linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said. "Coming from the outside of the box in, the league needs to do a better job of calling penalties on those types of plays. Obviously, defenders get called all the time on stuff that is probably less egregious than that. If we're going to protect our football players, we need to protect everybody, not just offensive guys.

"It was dirty at the end of the day, and that's how I feel about it."

Josh Gordon Returns To Browns

Aug 18, 2018 11:58 PM

Josh Gordon has returned to the Cleveland Browns after spending time away from the team to work on his mental and physical health.

"As I humbly return to being a member of this team with an opportunity to get back to playing this game I love, I realize in order for me to reach my full potential, my primary focus must remain on my sobriety and mental well-being," Gordon said in a statement Saturday.

League sources had told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Gordon was seeking additional counseling to deal with his mental health and anxiety.

"I never lost trust in him," Browns coach Hue Jackson said Saturday. "Obviously, he was doing something to make himself better and put himself in a better place, which I think is very important. I think the health part for him is real important, and I get that and respect that.

"I think at the same time, what's very important is that he continues to do the things that the organization has set forth and that the football team has set forth. I think Josh understands that, and I think he is willing to do that and that will happen over time. In time, I think it will show exactly where he is."
