Kevin Stefanski continues to support Baker Mayfield as starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns despite a four turnover performance in their 24-22 loss to the Green Bay Packers. 

"He's our starting quarterback," Stefanski said, "yes."

Mayfield previously missed Monday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders after testing positive with COVID-19.

NFLPA president JC Tretter says the NFL was close to canceling three games this past weekend in the wake of multiple COVID-19 outbreaks among teams.

Instead the league moved Saturday's game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns to Monday, and rescheduled two Sunday games -- Washington at the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams -- to Tuesday.

Tretter, the Browns' starting center, was asked Wednesday about criticism he received from Raiders players for pushing the game to be rescheduled.

"I think the thing that people didn't understand was I was fighting for the same thing for the Browns players as I was for the Raiders players, which was to get paid. ... I don't think everybody was fully aware of just how close those games were to being canceled," Tretter said. "And I don't think everybody was fully aware that, if canceled, they weren't going to get paid. Both teams weren't going to get paid."

The NFL will not consider rescheduling Saturday's Las Vegas Raiders-Cleveland Browns game, according to a report.

The Browns are working through a COVID-19 outbreak. The NFL rescheduled several games last season due to the pandemic, but the league implemented rules to help teams navigate the pandemic, including expanding the practice squad roster this year.

Rodger Goodell all but confirmed that this game would not be moved, saying that there has been no discussion regarding rescheduling. 

"We feel confident with continuing changes and adaptions to our protocols we can do that," Goodell said.

There were 15 rescheduled games in 2020 due to the pandemic. 

Baker Mayfield has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Cleveland Browns will start Case Keenum at quarterback should he remain negative. Nick Mullens will serve as backup.

The Cleveland Browns placed eight players on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, including Jarvis Landry, Wyatt Teller and Austin Hooper.

All eight players are vaccinated, according to source, which gives them hope of playing this weekend.

Vaccinated players can return only after producing two negative tests 24 hours apart. Unvaccinated players must sit a minimum of 10 days.

"It's obviously an unfortunate situation," guard Joel Bitonio said. "You want to see your guys on the field. But we have been through it. We had multiple weeks last year where we couldn't fully practice. We lost some players, including the playoff game, so we do have experience with it."

Andrew Berry reiterated Wednesday that the Cleveland Browns believe in Baker Mayfield and said he expects the quarterback "to play his best football" after the upcoming bye week.

"Baker's our quarterback," Berry said. "He's healthy enough to win games for us. If he's ready to go, he's going to be our starter."

The Browns (6-6) have scored more than 17 points only once since Oct. 10.
