Nick Foles Never Heard About Browns Trade Offer

May 30, 2018 9:27 AM

The Cleveland Browns reportedly offered the 35th pick in this year's draft to the Philadelphia Eagles for Nick Foles earlier this offseason.

The Eagles rejected the offer, according to the report, in part because Foles had no desire to leave Philadelphia.

Foles said Tuesday that he heard of the offer when he received text messages about the report.

"I haven't turned down anything," Foles said. "We haven't talked about anything. ... At the end of the day, I'm not the G.M. of the team. I have a great relationship with Howie [Roseman] to where if something did happen, we could have a discussion. But at the end of the day, he gets to decide."

The Cleveland Browns attempted to trade for Nick Foles this offseason but the Philadelphia Eagles declined their overtures.

The Browns would have sent the 35th overall pick to the Eagles for Foles, but Foles preferred to remain with the Eagles.

Foles and the Eagles agreed upon a reworked contract that gave him a $2 million bonus for 2018.

The Browns pivoted to trading for Tyrod Taylor.

Myles Garrett Aiming For More Playing Time This Season

May 22, 2018 8:34 AM

Myles Garrett is healthier and stronger than he was last year, which he believes will allow him to have more of an impact on the Cleveland Browns.

"I wanted to get in better condition, so I can be out there and make plays, create turnovers," Garrett said.

Garrett missed the first four games of the season with a high-ankle sprain. He also missed one game with a concussion. According to Pro Football Reference, he played 518 of 1,068 snaps (48.5 percent) last season. Ten of his Cleveland teammates played more snaps.

"Being healthy this year, it’s really about my confidence," Garrett said. "Being able to be more mobile, not have anything hold me back, it's helped me, not only bring me confidence, but bring my teammates confidence knowing that I'm always going to be out there, always going to be working and there’s not going to be any hindrances for this year."

Cardinals Acquire Jamar Taylor From Browns

May 18, 2018 5:37 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to trade a 2020 sixth round pick to the Cleveland Browns for cornerback Jamar Taylor.

Taylor was originally set to make $4.5 million in 2018, but he has since restructured his contract in order to make a trade more palpable for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals used a sixth-round pick (182nd overall) on cornerback Chris Campbell, but have kept options open. The Cardinals hosted free-agent cornerback Baushad Breeland on Thursday, but Breeland could land with the Colts.

Browns Have Baker Mayfield Doing Extra Work Under Center

May 7, 2018 4:11 PM

The Cleveland Browns put Baker Mayfield under center quite a bit during rookie camp.

The former Heisman Trophy winner spent a majority of his college career in the shotgun.

"We are going to hammer that until I am good and it feels natural," Mayfield said. "That is the way it should be because I can play out of the 'gun. Everybody here knows that. We are going to hammer that and we are going to work on what I need to work on so that we can go from there."

The Browns used the No. 1 pick on Mayfield last month.

Patriots Were Prepared To Trade Up To No. 2 For Baker Mayfield

May 2, 2018 10:19 PM

The New England Patriots had interest in trading up to No. 2 to select Baker Mayfield, according to Mayfield's agent Jack Mills.

The New York Giants owned the No. 2 pick and selected Saquon Barkley.

“We had another team which is going to surprise you. Another team had said, ‘You may get a big surprise on draft day, at No. 2, if he’s available.’ And it was the Patriots,” Mills said. “They had 23 and they had 31 and they had two seconds. We thought, ‘That’s gonna be a heck of a move, to get up that high from where they are.’ And of course he wasn’t available so we never knew if that was reality or not.”

The Patriots owned a pair of first round picks and many believed they had some level of interest in selecting a potential replacement for Tom Brady in this draft.

Mills also said that the Jets would have taken Mayfield over Sam Darnold at No. 3.

Browns Executive On Josh Rosen: Something About Him Bothered Me

May 1, 2018 11:23 AM

Cleveland Browns vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith has shed some light on why the team passed on Josh Rosen in favor of Baker Mayfield last week.

"I was at an airport," Highsmith told the Canton Repository. "UCLA's volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. He's this or that. We all know how people talk.

"So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, 'What's Rosen like?' He said, 'Aaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. She's one of the players. She's over there.'

"I'm like, 'All right coach. That's good enough.' ... I don't know what all this means, but there was something about him that bothered me."

Rosen was eventually the 10th pick of the Arizona Cardinals.
