The Cleveland Browns have named Baker Mayfield their starting quarterback.
Tyrod Taylor will be Mayfield's backup when he's healthy.
Mayfield replaced Taylor following an injury in Week 3 and led the Browns to a victory over the Jets.
Baker Mayfield made his NFL debut midway through Thursday night's game against the New York Jets and led the Cleveland Browns to their first victory since 2016.
Despite his impressive play, Hue Jackson wouldn't name him the team's starter going forward.
Jackson said that he needs to "watch the tape" before deciding on his starting quarterback for Week 4 in Oakland.
Tyrod Taylor left in the second quarter with what the team said was a concussion.
Hue Jackson says he didn't take Thursday's night successful two-point conversion play from the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cleveland Browns momentarily tied their game with the New York Jets with a two-point conversion that resembled the "Philly Special" the Eagles used in Super Bowl LII and again in Week 1 of this season.
Baker Mayfield played the role of Nick Foles, catching a pass in the end zone.
"We did not steal that from them," Jackson said after Cleveland broke their losing streak. "Please. I know everybody wants to think that. We have had that in our back pocket for a while. Go check my tricks from before, and go check [offensive coordinator Todd Haley's] tricks from before. We all have them. It is just when you pull them out and use them. That is what that is."
Teams used the play before the Eagles, but they've become associated with the play since it was used on an international stage.
Hue Jackson wants to get Duke Johnson more involved in the Cleveland Browns' offensive attack.
"Yeah, obviously, he's one of our better playmakers, and he has to touch the ball,'' said Jackson. "Duke is a tremendous player. We're glad he's here, and we've got to put him position to make an impact because he can."
Through two games, Johnson has three catches for 15 yards and eight carries for 20 yards.
"We'll have to wait and see," Johnson said. "I know I'm kind of part of the plan in a sense. So far, so good for me mentally, just trying to push through and affect this team in different ways. If I don't have the ball, make sure I'm pass protecting, blocking down the field, anything needed of me, special teams, whatever it is to try and help us win."
The Cleveland Browns have suspended their sideline reporter on radio broadcasts for eight games after he yelled at an official during the team's loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Nathan Zegura, employed by the team as senior media broadcaster, will not work a game until Nov. 25.
He also has been suspended from co-hosting the team-produced Cleveland Browns Daily, a two-hour weekday show on ESPN 850 WKNR.
Zegura yelled at the official because he did not agree with a pass interference call against Browns cornerback T.J. Carrie in the end zone.
The New England Patriots have acquired Josh Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns for a fifth round pick. If Gordon isn't active for 10 games, they will get a late round pick back from the Browns.
The Browns made it known over the weekend that they were planning to release Gordon if they couldn't trade him.
Gordon also had interest in the Cowboys and 49ers.
Gordon's strained hamstring is not serious and he's expected to play in Week 3 against the Lions.
Josh Gordon will be released or traded by the Cleveland Browns and he hopes to end up with either the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.
The Browns provided no details behind their decision to part ways with Gordon, but a source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that he broke the team's "trust" when he reported to the facility Saturday with a hamstring issue after being a full participant in practice all week.
Gordon will have no says in where he is traded but Gordon is hopeful that it's to a place that can provide the support and understanding what his needs.
Drew Brees is among those that feel Baker Mayfield has a very bright future in the NFL.
"I think he can be a lot better than me," Brees said on a conference call.
The Cleveland Browns drafted Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick, but are starting Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. The Browns will face Brees and the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
"Man, he's got all the tools," Brees said. "He's more athletic. He probably can run around better. He's got a stronger arm."
Brees, who has never met Mayfield, has thrown for 70,884 yards, completed 67 percent of his throws and won a Super Bowl in a 18-year career.
"I followed his college career," Brees said. "Couldn't have been more impressed with what he was able to accomplish, especially last year. Really impressed with the way he plays the game. I think he's a great competitor."
If the Browns have a turnaround in the near future, Myles Garrett surely will be at the center of it.
