Nick Mullens Likely Starter For 49ers In Week 3

Sep 24, 2020 8:29 AM

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to start Nick Mullens at quarterback in Week 3 against the New York Giants.

Jimmy Garoppolo's sprained ankle is expected to sideline him.

"I'll be surprised if Jimmy gets back later in the week," Kyle Shanahan said. "Nick is ready to go. He got a lot of playing time with us in 2018, and that prepared him for moments like this."

Mullens started eight games for the 49ers in 2018.

Mohamed Sanu Agrees To One-Year Deal With 49ers

Sep 16, 2020 8:27 AM

In need of depth at wide receiver, the San Francisco 49ers have signed Mohamed Sanu to a one-year deal.

Kyle Shanahan hinted at the addition during a new conference on Monday.

"We'll see how these injuries go, but I love Sanu," Shanahan said. "He's a hell of a player, so him being out there is always a possibility ... I wouldn't rule that out at all. He's available and he's definitely a guy I really respect and I think everyone in this league respects. So, we'll see how it goes this week."

Sanu was expected to report to the 49ers on Tuesday night. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the earliest the wide receiver could practice is Friday.

George Kittle's Status For Week 2 Uncertain

Sep 15, 2020 8:41 AM

George Kittle suffered a sprained left knee in the San Francisco 49ers' season-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The injury puts Kittle's status for Week 2 against the New York Jets in question.

"We'll see how he comes in on Wednesday," Kyle Shanahan said. "He was a little sore today but we'll wait to see how he is on Wednesday to see if he's able to practice or be able to go this week. We know there will be some question."

Kittle had four catches for 44 yards in the first half, but was not targeted in the final two quarters.

The tight end suffered what Shanahan called a "popped capsule" in his left knee in a Week 9 win at Arizona in which he also returned and finished the game.
