49ers Not Prepared To Commit To Smith For 2010

Jul 18, 2014 12:38 PM

Alex Smith comfortably won the starting job at quarterback for the 49ers, but Mike Singletary isn't necessarily sold on him. "I feel very good about his progression. I'm very encouraged by what I have seen in a short amount of time for a guy who has been out of football for a couple of years," Singletary said. "I'm comfortable with what I'm seeing right now." Despite that comfort level, Singletary wouldn't discuss Smith's future beyond this season, saying only that he was "looking forward to (seeing Smith) the next two games."

Owner: Singletary's Job Safe

Oct 22, 2014 9:55 AM

San Francisco team president Jed York gave a vote of confidence to coach Mike Singletary and general manger Scot McCloughan on Monday. "No question," York said when asked if the pair would be with the 49ers for the 2010 season. "That he's able to instill what he wants into the players, even if that means he has to retool it, he's not too stubborn to say, 'Well, this is who I am, this is who we have to be and you have to adapt to me,' " York said of Singletary. "He will adapt to his players as well, and you've seen that with the offense a little bit. ... It's something that he has to learn for himself, how he's going to give and how he's going to take. I think he's doing a good job at that." The 49ers are 6-7 after beating the Cardinals on Monday night and remain alive in the NFC playoff picture.

Singletary Backs OC Jimmy Raye

Oct 22, 2014 9:55 AM

The 49ers may have their eighth offensive coordinator in eight offseasons after the season is over. Jimmy Raye's offense has been inconsistent and more pass-heavy than expected. "Absolutely," Mike Singletary said when asked if he is confident in Raye. "I think that Jimmy has adapted and adjusted. I think he's going 180, 360. Anything that I've asked him to do, he's been more than willing to do, and I think that he's done a fine job. I think that Alex has adjusted to him well. I think that he and Alex are on the same page along with Mike Johnson."

Singletary Plans To Send NFL List Of Grievances

Oct 22, 2014 9:55 AM

San Francisco coach Mike Singletary plans to send the NFL a lengthy list of grievances following Sunday's loss to Seattle. Singletary sends a letter to the league every week, but he said this one will contain "many" examples of what he thought to be questionable calls in Sunday's contest. "Every week we send a letter to the league about different calls that are made, or not made," he said in his Monday news conference. "This week there will be several paragraphs going to the league. ... Obviously, there were bad calls made yesterday. ... There were a few more than I have witnessed maybe since I've been in the league."

49ers Starting QB Job In 2010 Now Smith's To Lose

Oct 22, 2014 10:01 AM

Alex Smith has an 84.7 passer rating for the season and has made far more impressive plays at quarterback than Shaun Hill. Matt Maiocco, beat writer for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, believes Smith will be the unquestioned starter in 2010 unless he has a meltdown over the final five games.
