49ers Considered Trent Williams At Guard Had Trade Happened Earlier

Jun 24, 2020 8:15 AM

If the San Francisco 49ers had found a way to acquire Trent Williams in a trade last season, he might have found himself playing guard.

San Francisco looked into trading with Washington for Williams last season when both starting tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey were sidelined with injuries.

"We had made a call about it in the last season when Joe and McGlinchey were hurt, thinking, wow, this could be an option," John Lynch said. "When those guys come back, maybe we play him at guard."

Richard Sherman: 'Awesome' More White Athletes Are Speaking Out

Jun 1, 2020 9:17 AM

Richard Sherman doesn't feel it's a requirement that athletes use their platform to comment on the unrest around the country following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.

Sherman said that "not everyone has something to say and not everyone who's an athlete should be forced to" share their thoughts on social matters.

However, the San Francisco 49ers cornerback did say he enjoyed the public comments made by a number of white athletes.

"I'm impressed with the white QBs speaking up because those are voices that carry different weight than the black voices for some people," Sherman said.

"Which means the people who refuse to listen to a black athlete's perspective will hear the same thing said from a white athlete, but receive the message much differently. So it's awesome that more people are speaking out, because in sports, you really have a love and appreciation for your fellow man, regardless of race. And I think that's what makes sports and teams so special, because a lot of the stereotypes are torn down. You really get to know one another, not judge based off nonsense."

George Kittle Looking For More Than Top TE Money

Jun 1, 2020 4:53 PM

George Kittle and the San Francisco 49ers haven't made much progress on a new contract.

Kittle's agent says he is looking for more than a deal that makes him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

"I don't care about the tight end market," Jack Bechta told NFL Network. "I'm being paid to do a George Kittle deal."

The 26-year-old is set to make $735,000 in 2020 on the final year of his rookie contract.

Austin Hooper signed the largest contract for a tight end this offseason: a four-year, $42 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.
