Kyle Shanahan Upset Over Suddenness Of County Ban

Nov 30, 2020 10:48 AM

The San Francisco 49ers found out when the rest of the world did that they won't be able to play in Santa Clara County for the next three weeks.

The county held a news conference on Saturday while the 49ers were on a plane headed to face the Los Angeles Rams.

"For us to be heading out here [Saturday] and the relationship we have with them and for our players and coaches and everyone on that plane and our wives to find that out while we're getting on a plane and no one to tell us, it was just extremely disappointing," Kyle Shanahan said of the announcement. "I get it: They made that decision, and we've got to deal with it, but to find that out through a tweet or a press conference, where I have an entire plane coming up to me, I have all wives, everyone's girlfriends, everyone's family members, kids, saying they heard we could be gone for the entire month of December? Are we going to be quarantined for 14 days when we get back?

"That's all we could talk about for the last 18 hours because we got no answers from them. I was just very disappointed."

That curveball left the 49ers spending most of their time in Los Angeles thinking and talking about where they will be for the bulk of December.

49ers Without Home For At Least Three Weeks Due To County Ban

Nov 28, 2020 8:26 PM

The San Francisco 49ers will not be able to play games at Levi's Stadium and practice at their facility as Santa Clara County has instituted a three-week ban on any contact sports taking place int he county.

The ban comes as COVID-19 cases in California and the Bay Area increase.

"All recreational activities that involve physical contact or close proximity to persons outside one's household, including all contact sports, will be temporarily prohibited," the order said. "People can continue to engage in outdoor athletics and recreation where social distancing can be maintained at all times."

The 49ers are scheduled to play two home games within that three-week span, including a December 7th game on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

Kyle Shanahan Backs Jimmy Garoppolo As 49ers' Starter

Nov 18, 2020 4:01 PM

Kyle Shanahan is dismissing rumors that Jimmy Garoppolo might be done with the San Francisco 49ers.

Garoppolo is recovering from a high ankle sprain, which has put his season in jeopardy.

"I expect Jimmy to be our starter next year," Shanahan said. "I expect him to come and play with us this year. We have six games left, we are not out of the playoffs yet. I have been on a team that was 3-6 going into a bye week that ended up winning their division. I think we have guys on this team that are capable of finishing this the right way. We've got to do it one game at a time, and I hope Jimmy can be a part of that.

"But to think that we've made any decisions on anybody going into the future isn't the case. Jimmy has won a lot of games for us. It's a lot harder to win games when he's not here. Just hoping we can get him back."

Including the playoffs, the 49ers are 24-9 with Garoppolo as the starting quarterback since he arrived in 2017.

NFL Probing Mask Use By 49ers' Kendrick Bourne

Nov 6, 2020 8:33 AM

The NFL is looking into possible protocol violations by Kendrick Bourne one day after the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver tested positive for COVID-19.

It's standard procedure for the league to look into all positive tests at team facilities, but the NFL is investigating whether Bourne has been wearing his protective face covering properly and frequently enough.

If Bourne is found to have not complied with protocols, the 49ers would be subject to league discipline, including a fine.

Kendrick Bourne tested positive on Wednesday morning, according to source.

Brandon Aiyuk Modeling His Game After Davante Adams

Nov 4, 2020 8:48 AM

San Francisco 49ers rookie Brandon Aiyuk said ahead of Thursday's game that he models his game after fellow receiver Davante Adams.

Aiyuk will see Adams up close when the 49ers face the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.

"Davante Adams, when I was coming out of college, he was one of the main receivers that I watched," Aiyuk said. "All the games from last season and what he does, and what he's able to do at the line of scrimmage and with his route running.

"He's actually my pro comparison, so I love watching Davante Adams. I try to take stuff out of his bag and put it in mine."

Kyle Shanahan: George Kittle Says Two Weeks, Doctors Say Eight

Nov 4, 2020 8:34 AM

George Kittle has a fracture in his foot and doctors have given the tight end an eight-week recovery timetable.

Kyle Shanahan confirmed the diagnosis on Tuesday, while saying the San Francisco 49ers star is already hoping to be back on the field much sooner.

"I know it's something in his foot," Shanahan said. "It didn't show up on their X-rays, but whether on the MRIs or CT scan or something with a better resolution, it showed. It happened on that one play. I think they told me eight weeks. Kittle says two, but that's how he rolls. That's why he'll go on IR and if it's better than what they're saying, he'll have a chance to come back this year, but eight weeks is eight weeks."

Going on injured reserve means Kittle would have to miss a minimum of three weeks.
