Niners: WR Trade Unlikely Despite Ricky Pearsall Pick

Apr 26, 2024 8:38 AM

The San Francisco 49ers drafted a wide receiver on Thursday night, but the team says that doesn't mean they'll trade someone like Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, which has led to plenty of trade speculation.

John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan acknowledged that there had been discussions with other teams, but no deals came close to happening.

Asked late Thursday night if such a trade could still happen heading into Friday, Lynch and Shanahan again didn't sound like a deal for either player was imminent, though they didn't close the door completely.

"It doesn't seem that likely to be honest," Shanahan said. "But I'm still on the table. If someone offered [owner] Jed [York] and John good stuff for me, I'm going to be out of here."

Report: Niners Could Still Trade Brandon Aiyuk

Apr 24, 2024 8:39 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have said several times this offseason that they want to keep Brandon Aiyuk over the long-term, but a new report goes against that.

An Aiyuk trade hasn't been ruled out and "anything's possible," according to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 49ers reportedly want a 2024 first-round pick for Aiyuk.

John Lynch: Niners 'Having Good Talks' With Brandon Aiyuk

Apr 23, 2024 8:16 AM

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch discussed Brandon Aiyuk's contract situation while meeting with the media on Monday.

"I've communicated on many occasions: our wish is that he's here and part of the Niners for the rest of his career," Lynch said. "We're working through that ... I can say we're having good talks, and I'm just going to leave it at that."

Aiyuk is coming off a 75-catch, 1,342-yard, 7-touchdown season that landed him a second-team All-Pro nod. He is scheduled to play the 2024 season on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal. That contract is slated to come with a $14.124 million salary cap hit.

Lynch acknowledged that he has received calls from other teams interested in Aiyuk but again made it clear there is no desire to trade him.

"We're really focused on BA being part of us," Lynch said.

Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Logan Ryan Retires

Veteran defensive back Logan Ryan has announced his retirement.

Ryan played in six conference championship games and won two Super Bowl rings.

"I am officially retiring from the NFL," Ryan said in a video posted to X. "What a great career. What a ride it was. Beautiful journey of highs and lows, like they always are."

Ryan, 33, won two championships with the New England Patriots during his first four seasons in the league after the team selected him in the third round of the 2013 draft.

He also played for the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers during his career.

Buccaneers, Randy Gregory Agree On One-Year Deal

Apr 3, 2024 6:49 PM

The Buccaneers agreed to terms with outside linebacker Randy Gregory on a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

The move helps the Bucs fill a need at outside linebacker after the departure of Pro Bowler Shaquil Barrett -- who was released in a salary-cap-saving move and later signed with the Miami Dolphins this offseason -- but it doesn't preclude Tampa Bay from drafting a player at the position, as well.

Brock Purdy Collects From NFL Performance Pool

Apr 2, 2024 8:45 AM

The NFL has announced its annual performance-based pay distribution.

This year, the league compensated players an additional $393.8 million in performance-based pay for the 2023 season.

For San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, that resulted in an additional paycheck of $739,795, which comes out to 75.1% of the $985,000 base salary he made in 2023.

In his second NFL season, Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting. Because he isn't yet eligible for a lucrative contract extension, the performance-based pay incentive was the only way for him to earn extra compensation for his performance.
