Singletary: I'm Looking For A More Conventional Offense

Oct 26, 2014 4:11 PM

Mike Singletary conducted his end of season press conference on Wednesday and revealed his offensive strategy for the future. Singletary said his approach to offense is "more run to pass." In firing Mike Martz, Singletary said he was looking to establish a more conventional offense. Singletary said he wants to establish an offense that was more similar to what coach Bill Walsh implemented with the 49ers in the past. But, Singletary said, he is not a 3-yard-and-a-cloud-of-dust kind of guy.

Aug 4, 2014 11:15 PM

The 49ers announced on Sunday that Mike Singletary has been hired as their new coach, removing the interim tag he has had since Oct. 21 with a four-year deal. "Mike Singletary's leadership ability has galvanized the players and coaching staff to deliver improved results on the field," general manager Scot McCloughan said. "By turning the second half of the season around, he has accomplished what few interim head coaches have been able to do. "After discussions with ownership, we agree that Mike has earned the head coach position. I look forward to working with Mike to continue to build on the momentum he has created as we prepare for the 2009 season."

New 49ers' President Supports Singletary

Oct 28, 2014 6:35 AM

Jed York got a new title when he became the 49ers' team president Sunday, and he doesn't sound as though he'll be looking for a new head coach next week. York, 27, said interim coach Mike Singletary has done an "awesome" job in his eight games in charge of the franchise. San Francisco isn't allowed to give the job permanently to Singletary until after the season, but Jed York left little doubt of his feelings. "I'm very fired up about Mike," York said on Sunday. "When we see what Mike is doing, he's done a good job getting everybody together. I think the team is starting to play with the intensity and passion that we expect."

Niners Set On Singletary

Oct 28, 2014 6:40 AM

49ers' officials plan on removing the interim label from fan favorite Mike Singletary and offering him a multi-year contract, according to a source close to the situation. The offer likely will be made immediately after the team's season finale Sunday against the Washington Redskins. The NFL's Rooney Rule prevents teams from signing interim coaches to new deals during the season. Because Singletary is a minority, however, the 49ers do not have to go through a formal interview process at season's end.

"I think the most important thing is that I just continue to stay focused.
