The San Francisco 49ers have lost two more key contributors on offense.

Deebo Samuel and Jeff Wilson, Jr. are expected to miss extended time after they both played major roles in Sunday's win over the New England Patriots.

Samuel is dealing with a left hamstring strain and will "most likely" San Francisco's next two games.

Wilson suffered a high left ankle sprain and is expected to go on injured reserve this week.

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to place Raheem Mostert on injured reserve with a high left ankle sprain.

Mostert suffered the injury on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

"We'll see how it progresses," Kyle Shanahan said.

Mostert leads the 49ers with 303 yards on 51 carries and boasts a 5.94-yards-per-carry average.

The San Francisco 49ers will start Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback in Week 5.

Garoppolo suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of the 49ers' Sept. 20 win against the New York Jets.

"He did a good job," Kyle Shanahan said. "Each day it got better, never felt too sore the next day, so we needed to hear that today and see him out there today, and we feel good to go and he'll be starting Sunday."

C.J. Beathard will serve as Garoppolo's backup this week after replacing Nick Mullens in the closing minutes of last weekend's loss.

The San Francisco 49ers have released Mohamed Sanu.

The Niners signed Sanu on Sept. 18, but he became expendable with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk both healthy. 

Sanu appeared in each of the team’s last three games and had one catch for nine yards.

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping Jimmy Garoppolo will be able to return from a high-ankle sprain this week.

If he's not, Kyle Shanahan will have to decide between Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard. Mullens was benched late in Sunday night's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in favor of Beathard.

"That’s something we"ll work through this week,” Shanahan said. "I'm still not sure about Jimmy. Just finished [speaking] with the players about 30 minutes ago, so I don't really know what we'll do on Wednesday.

"We'll have a plan by then. But [I] haven't talked it over with the coaches, yet, so not sure."
