The New York Jets haven't made the playoffs in 12 years, which is the longest playoff drought in the NFL.

Now that the NBA's Sacramento Kings have clinched a playoff berth, ending their 16-year drought, the Jets own the longest drought in North American professional sports.

The Jets have just one winning record during that stretch (10-6 in 2015), enduring seven consecutive losing seasons.

The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers continue to negotiate a trade centered around Aaron Rodgers.

According to a report, the sticking point in talks currently is that the Jets want some protection in case Rodgers doesn't play in 2024.

The report states that the Jets want the Packers to send them a 2025 draft pick in case Rodgers decides to retire after the 2023 season.

With the move long expected, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is eager for the team to finalize a trade with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers.

"Well, you know, I think we're anxious. We're anxious," Johnson said. "I guess, as we look forward, we're optimistic. But we have a plan, so we're willing to stick with our plan. And I don't think anybody is hyperventilating at this point."

The two teams are in regular contact but haven't been able to agree on trade compensation.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said Monday that he has been unsuccessful in his attempts to reach out to Aaron Rodgers since their final meeting in January, shortly after last season.

Gutekunst's comments come less than two weeks after Rodgers told Pat McAfee that the Packers were not direct with him about their intentions and how he fit into their plans for the 2023 season.

"I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that," Gutekunst said. "Those never transpired. So there came a time where we had to make some decisions, so we went through his representatives to try to talk to him [about] where were we going with our team. At that point, they informed us that he would like to be traded to the [New York] Jets."

Gutekunst said he was under the impression that after the end-of-season meetings were concluded they would talk again, when both sides had a chance to assess the situation.

"Our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way," he said, "I think at that point, I had to do my job and kind of reach out [to other teams] and understand that a trade could be possible and see who was interested."

Ezekiel Elliott has narrowed his options on where to play in 2023 down to the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles, according to sources.

Elliott, 27, would like to make his decision about where to sign by the end of next week.

The running back tweeted on Thursday that he also wants to wear the #15, which he wore in college at Ohio State.

Elliott, who was set to count $16.7 million against the Dallas Cowboys' salary cap, was released by the team March 15.

The New York Jets have traded Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns.

The Jets sent Moore and their 2023 third-round pick (No. 74 overall) to the Browns for their second-round pick (No. 42). New York now has two second-round picks this year.

New York followed the trade up with a contract agreement with Mecole Hardman. The wide receiver will receive a one-year deal worth up to $6.5 million, according to a source.

The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers are not close to completing a trade of Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers are not in a rush to trade Rodgers and will wait until they get significant compensation for him. Green Bay believes they should receive a premium from the Jets for Rodgers.

Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford recently were traded for multiple first round picks.

Aaron Rodgers announced on Wednesday he intends to play for the New York Jets  in 2023.

Rodgers said he made the decision on Friday and is not holding up a trade, which still isn't finalized. The Jets are engaged with the Green Bay Packers on a trade, which will also include a restructured contract for Rodgers.

"I made it clear my intention was to play and to play for the New York Jets, and I haven't been holding anything up. It's the compensation that the Packers are trying to get. ... The Packers want to move on and have let me know that in so many words," he said.

Rodgers said he will always love the Packers organization but that it's clear it's time for a change.

"I f---ing love that city. I love that organization and always going to have love for that organization. The facts are right now they want to move on, and now so do I," he said.

He said his decision to leave Green Bay was "bittersweet."

"I got to be the starting quarterback of the Packers for 15 years. ... So, I love you, Green Bay. Thank you. I'm as sad as some of you are, but we'll meet again."

Only a year ago, Rodgers seemed destined to finish his career in Green Bay. After contemplating retirement following the 2021 season, he signed a three-year, $150 million contract extension in March 2022.

The Green Bay Packers are willing to wait until the NFL Draft to trade Aaron Rodgers, per a league source.

Green Bay is willing to hold strong in trade talks in order to get what they want in return for the quarterback.

Rodgers has long been linked to the New York Jets. ESPN's Trey Wingo said earlier this week that the trade was a "done deal."

The New York Jets are signing Allen Lazard to a four-year contract worth up to $44 million, according to source.

Lazard will receive $22 million in guaranteed money.

The wide receiver is a favorite of Aaron Rodgers, who has been linked to the Jets for weeks.
