Breece Hall: Jets Will Turn Things Around In 'Near Future'

Dec 29, 2023 9:40 AM

The New York Jets dropped to 6-10 with Thursday night's loss to the Cleveland Browns, but Breece Hall believes better days are ahead.

The Jets had high hopes before Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on the fourth play of the season.

"I'll just tell everybody to get their laughs out now because it's not going to be like that in the near future," Hall said of the Jets' fortunes. "We're going to be a lot better. I'm excited to see what we do."

Joe Flacco Happy With Browns, No Ill Will Toward Jets

Dec 27, 2023 9:10 AM

Joe Flacco has no hard feelings against the New York Jets, who didn't re-sign him after last season and also didn't bring him back after Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in this season's opener.

Flacco and the Cleveland Browns will host the Jets on Thursday night with a chance to clinch a postseason berth.

"I enjoyed my time while I was there, and it is what it is," said Flacco, who spent parts of three seasons with the Jets. "I'm happy to be where I am, that's for sure."

Flacco has started the last four games for the Browns, winning three. Cleveland (10-5) is all alone at the 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Over the last four weeks, Flacco has thrown for more yards (1,307) than any other NFL quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers: Not My Idea To Be Activated From IR

Dec 26, 2023 9:55 PM

Aaron Rodgers believes "conspiracy theorists" are portraying him as selfish for taking up a roster spot on the New York Jets even though he's not playing, indicating it wasn't his idea to be activated from injured reserve.

Rodgers, in his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," said the Jets' organization wanted him on the 53-man roster so he could keep practicing with the team despite being ruled out due to his surgically repaired Achilles.

Rodgers said he would've been content to finish the season on IR.

"I assumed I was going to go on IR," said Rodgers, who announced Dec. 19 that his 2023 comeback bid was over. "I asked to be put on IR, but then there was a conversation, 'Do you want to practice?' I said not at the expense of somebody getting cut. I know how this works.

"I didn't feel like I needed to practice to continue my rehab. I could do on-the-field stuff on the side, but, obviously, I got overruled there. It is what it is. This was an interesting situation."

While not naming names, Rodgers, 40, suggested that certain people have hatched "conspiracies" and "the same, tired narrative" because they disagree with his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine. He said they're still upset because he "didn't bow down to the medical industrial complex and the mass formation psychosis" while making his health decisions.

Robert Saleh: Jets Could've Done Better After Losing Aaron Rodgers

Dec 25, 2023 2:25 PM

From the hiring of a new offensive coordinator to the signing of free agents, the New York Jets tailored their 2023 blueprint around one player: quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

While coach Robert Saleh said he had no regrets even though he lost Rodgers to an Achilles injury on the fourth play of the season, he conceded Monday the team could've done a better job of adjusting without Rodgers.

"When you have a Hall of Fame quarterback, you're going to build it around his strengths, period," Saleh said. "That's a very common thing throughout the league. It's not just a Jets thing. That's leaguewide.

"Could we have done things better? I'm talking about myself and the coaching staff, with regards to, 'All right, this is our worst-case scenario, now what?' Absolutely, and it's something that we will make sure that we do a heck of a lot better with in 2024."

Jets Planning To Retain GM Joe Douglas, Coach Robert Saleh

Dec 24, 2023 1:14 PM

Despite missing the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season, the New York Jets are planning to retain general manager Joe Douglas and coach Robert Saleh, owner Woody Johnson said Sunday in a newspaper interview.

"My decision is to keep them," Johnson told the New York Post before his team faced the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium. "I think we've had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defense is better. The offense needs a few pieces."

Jets Activating Aaron Rodgers To Practice Only

Dec 20, 2023 4:53 PM

Injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not play again this season, the New York Jets confirmed Wednesday, but he will continue to practice.

With Rodgers' 21-day practice window due to close, the Jets decided to activate Rodgers to the 53-man roster for the final three games. It's a victory of sorts for Rodgers, who had attempted to return from Achilles surgery faster than any player in NFL history. Symbolically, this will allow him to be part of the team, but it's also unusual because he is taking up a roster spot.

Coach Robert Saleh made it clear there is no chance of Rodgers getting into a game.

Aaron Rodgers Indicates He Won't Play This Season

Dec 19, 2023 5:22 PM

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who captivated the sports world for three months with his bid to return from Achilles surgery faster than any player in NFL history, indicated Tuesday that he won't play again this season.

But Rodgers intends to play in 2024 and beyond.

An upbeat Rodgers, appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," said a return to action would have been "an absolute no-brainer" for a playoff game. But the Jets (5-9) were eliminated from postseason contention Sunday, and that cemented Rodgers' decision.

"If I was 100 percent today, I'd be definitely pushing to play," he said. "But the fact is, I'm not."

Aaron Rodgers 'Wants To Play' As Deadline Nears

Dec 19, 2023 8:32 AM

With the clock ticking on a decision, Robert Saleh says Aaron Rodgers wants to play again for the New York Jets this season.

The coach refused to comment on whether or not the quarterback would actually take the field again.

"Aaron wants to play; let's not confuse that one," Saleh said. "That's why he's been working so hard to get back. His willingness to play, even if he's not 100%, is at the forefront of his mind. He wants to go, but ... until he's actually cleared, I'm not going to talk about it with anybody."

It seems unlikely that Rodgers, only 3 1/2 months removed from Achilles surgery, will see action over the final three games.

Rodgers' 21-day practice window closes Wednesday, which means the Jets must activate him or leave him on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Zach Wilson 'Unbelievable' In Winning Return

Dec 11, 2023 12:46 AM

Benched three times in his career and dismissed by fans and media as a first-round bust, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson delivered the kind of performance Sunday that was envisioned for him as the No. 2 pick in 2021.

"Zach was unbelievable," coach Robert Saleh said after the Jets snapped a five-game losing streak with a 30-6 rout of the Houston Texans at a rainswept MetLife Stadium.
