Jets Get First Win, No Longer Front-Runner For No. 1 Pick

Dec 21, 2020 9:12 AM

The New York Jets beat the Los Angeles Rams 23-20 on Sunday, their first win in 358 days.

With the victory, the Jets relinquished their front-runner position for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars are now projected to pick first overall.

"Hey, our job is to try to go out and win every week," Adam Gase said.

Sam Darnold Wants To Be 'Jet For Life'

Dec 15, 2020 8:53 AM

Sam Darnold still envisions himself as the quarterback of the future for the New York Jets.

"I love it here," he said. "I love the people, I love living here. I've always said I want to be a Jet for life, but that decision isn't necessarily up to me. But that's how I feel."

Darnold has struggled and the Jets are 0-13 with three games left to avoid a winless season.

The Jets already have clinched a top-three pick in the 2021 NFL draft, which puts them in range to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

"I believe in myself as a quarterback," Darnold said. "Obviously, that decision isn't up to me, but I'm always going to believe in myself. I have the utmost confidence in myself to go out there and play good football on Sundays."

Jets Fire Gregg Williams As Defensive Coordinator

Dec 7, 2020 11:16 AM

The New York Jets have fired Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator.

Williams controversially put the Jets in an all-out blitz and "zero" coverage with the Las Vegas Raiders facing a third-and-10 from the Jets' 46-yard line with 13 seconds left and no timeouts.

The Jets have yet to win a game this season. Williams was also defensive coordinator for the 0-16 Cleveland Browns in 2017.

Jets Captain Calls Out DC For Ill-Fated Blitz Call

Dec 7, 2020 8:58 AM

A few seconds away from their first win of the season, the New York Jets gambled with an all-out blitz that resulted in a game-winning touchdown pass by Derek Carr for the Las Vegas Raiders.

After the loss, safety Marcus Maye -- a team captain -- called out defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who made the blitz call on Henry Ruggs' 46-yard touchdown catch with five seconds left.

"I just felt like we could've been in a better call in that situation," Maye said.

During Maye's four-plus minute interview with reporters, he made eight references to how the defense should've been given a "better call" on third-and-10 with 13 seconds left when the play started.

The Jets dropped to 0-12 with the loss.

Adam Gase Admits He's Failed In Developing Sam Darnold

Dec 6, 2020 8:04 PM

Adam Gase was hired by the New York Jets nearly two years ago to help develop Sam Darnold.

More than halfway through his second season, the Jets are winless and the third overall pick from 2018 has failed to develop.

"I came here to help him, help him develop his career, and we haven't been able to do that," Gase admitted.

Gase said he hopes Darnold can finish 2020 on an upswing.

"That's why every game is so important," he said. "Keep trying to help him grow, keep trying to help him develop and see things the way he needs to see them and play the way I've seen him play in certain games."

Adam Gase: Jets' Playcalling Now 'A Collaborative Effort'

Dec 1, 2020 9:40 AM

Adam Gase won't reveal who is calling offensive plays for the winless New York Jets.

The Jets have scored an NFL-low 14 points per game.

"It's a collaborative effort," Gase said.

In Week 7, Gase announced he was handing the job to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Two weeks ago, Gase was actively involved in the process, but he claimed he simply was relaying Loggains' calls to the quarterback.
