Aaron Rodgers Jets' Preseason Debut: 'A Good Night'

Aug 27, 2023 11:54 AM

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers felt butterflies in his much-anticipated debut. He also felt love from the crowd, which gave him a loud ovation when he entered the game Saturday night at Met Life Stadium. "A special moment," he said after the Jets' 32-24 win over the New York Giants.

The night couldn't have gone much better for Rodgers, who played two series, threw a touchdown pass and emerged unscathed in his first preseason action since 2018.

"I got in, didn't get hurt, scored," he said succinctly. "A good night."

Aug 24, 2023 8:36 AM

Excused from team activities for the last 10 days, New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis says he's "stepping away" from football.

Davis, 28, released a statement on his Instagram account, saying he had been mulling the decision for "some time now."

Davis, who skipped the voluntary portion of the offseason program, was due to make a non-guaranteed $10.5 million in the final year of his contract.

The Tennessee Titans drafted Davis fifth overall in 2017. He played four years in Tennessee, producing his best numbers in 2020 -- 65 catches, 984 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Aaron Rodgers Not Concerned About Jets' Offensive Line

Aug 17, 2023 7:49 AM

Aaron Rodgers insists his concern level with the New York Jets' offensive line is "pretty low" despite six sacks and numerous pressures in a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday.

The quarterback preached patience, suggesting the pass-protection issues will get resolved once the starting five is set.

"It's Aug. 16, so we've got some time," Rodgers said. "Also, it's coming up."

The Jets faced the Buccaneers without guards Laken Tomlinson (leg) and Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) and left tackle Duane Brown (shoulder), who remains on the physically unable to perform list.

"I don't get concerned about things I don't have a huge role in -- yet," Rodgers said. "That might change. At some point, I might say, 'Hey, I need the five who are going to be in there to be in there with me for a solid week,' but I don't think we're at that point ... because I don't think there are five guys that have earned those spots. So, I have some patience."

Cook, who turned 28 last week, was released June 8 by the Minnesota Vikings.

With No. 1 back Breece Hall returning from ACL surgery, the Jets wanted to bolster their backfield with an accomplished runner.

Cook is still at least a week away from being able to practice as he recovers from shoulder surgery he underwent in February.
