Zach Wilson: Jets Will Try To Prove Joe Namath 'Wrong'

Sep 29, 2023 8:47 AM

Speaking for the first time since Joe Namath issued strong criticism of the New York Jets, Zach Wilson insisted that he wasn't upset by the comments.

"I mean, he's passionate," Wilson said. "He's obviously one of the greats, so as an offense we've got to do everything we can to try to prove him wrong."

Namath, 80, fed up with Wilson's struggles, blasted the quarterback on "The Michael Kay Show.". He said that Wilson's performance was "disgusting" and that he's "seen enough of Zach Wilson," predicting the former first-round pick never will develop into a good player.

Wilson was thrust into the lineup when Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury on the fourth play in Week 1.

Colin Kaepernick Writes To Jets, Requests Spot On Practice Squad

Sep 27, 2023 8:47 AM

Colin Kaepernick reached out to the New York Jets in the wake of Aaron Rogers' Achilles injury, but the team wasn't interested.

On Tuesday, musician J. Cole posted a letter written by Kaepernick addressed to Jets general manager Joe Douglas on social media. In the letter, Kaepernick requests not to take over Wilson's post, but to be signed to the practice squad.

The letter is dated 10 days after Rodgers suffered his injury in the season opener. Kaepernick says his training schedule has remained the same for six years, and that he is not done with football.

Kaepernick's last snap in the NFL came on Jan. 1, 2017.

Aaron Rodgers: Jets Offense 'Needs To Grow Up,' Not Point Fingers

Sep 27, 2023 8:37 AM

Aaron Rodgers wants his New York Jets teammates to do a better job of handling adversity.

Rodgers, in his weekly spot on "The Pat McAfee Show," said that he didn't care for the sideline behavior during Sunday's 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots.

"I think we need to hold our poise a little bit better across the board," Rodgers said. "Just offensively, we need to not have some of those things happen on the sideline and to be a little better and to be a, just be a little better competitors."

Garrett Wilson and Michael Carter were caught on camera in animated conversations with assistant coaches.

Rodgers said there were "too many little side conversations, and we just need to grow up a little bit on offense and lock in and do our jobs and not point fingers at each other -- and that's everybody. Don't point fingers at the coaching staff, don't point fingers at each other. Just get back to work and get the job done."

Joe Namath Blasts Zach Wilson As Jets Stick With QB

Sep 26, 2023 8:37 AM

Zach Wilson received a vote of confidence from Robert Saleh as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets on Monday, but Joe Namath issued some scathing criticism.

Namath blasted Wilson in a radio interview, while also taking aim at Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

"I didn't take anything positive out of it. It was awful," Namath told "The Michael Kay Show" on ESPN New York radio, referring to Wilson's performance Sunday.

Namath was irked by Wilson's first sack in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots, when he went down without being touched.

"You sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened?" Namath said. "I thought you're trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It's disgusting."

The Hall of Famer said he'd trade Wilson: "I wouldn't keep him. I've seen enough of Zach Wilson."

Namath also suggested that Saleh and Douglas should be replaced, saying, "These guys aren't picking the right players. They aren't doing a good job of coaching. It's evident. I mean, you've got to look and see. If you have an eye for football at all you see things are haywire. It's too crazy. They need to fix it and that's getting rid of a lot of people and bringing new ones in."

Robert Saleh: Zach Wilson Still Starter After Two Losses

Sep 25, 2023 9:00 AM

The New York Jets are still sticking with Zach Wilson despite losing back-to-back games following Aaron Rodgers' season-ending injury.

The former No. 2 overall pick helped rally the Jets to an overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, but since then New York has suffered losses to the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.

Robert Saleh says the best way he can explain why Wilson will remain the starter is because he gives the Jets the best chance to win. The head coach noted that the losses are not just on Wilson.

"It would help if we could help around him, in terms of the way we play," he said. "Just overall, it just wasn't good enough, from coaching to players to all of it."

Tim Boyle is the other quarterback on the Jets' current roster.

Sauce Gardner Accuses Mac Jones Of Taking Cheap Shot

Sep 25, 2023 8:47 AM

Sauce Gardner says Mac Jones took a cheap shot on him during the New York Jets' 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Gardner said the incident took place after a quarterback sneak by Jones, who was shoved to the ground by Gardner after the alleged hit took place.

"He's trying to prevent me from having kids in the future," the cornerback said of Jones.

Gardner, who said that that was the first time that has ever happened to him, elaborated on what transpired between him and Jones.

"He and I got tackled, [and] he reached his hand up to try to like, get me to help him up, and I just like, moved his hand out of the way," Gardner said. "Then he got up, and he just came up to me and was like, 'Good job.' And while he said that, he hit me in my private parts. I didn't react how I really wanted to. That was just the reaction that came after that. I definitely wasn't expecting that. There's a first time for everything, I guess."

Jones denied any foul play on his part when asked about Gardner's accusation after the game.

"Definitely a physical play," Jones said. "Lot of guys are in there. That's kind of like the famous quarterback sneak that everyone does. There's all the guys on both teams were in there. It can get pretty physical, and that's something I have to learn from is getting my pads a little bit lower so that I can get it and not get held up."

Jets' Garrett Wilson: 14-Game Skid Against Patriots 'Unacceptable'

Sep 20, 2023 8:29 AM

Garrett Wilson believes it's time for the New York Jets to end their 14-game losing streak to the New England Patriots.

"It's time that things change around here," Wilson said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on ESPN New York's "Bart & Hahn" show.

"I don't like talking about it too much, but this is one of the first steps. Fourteen straight is unacceptable. That's unacceptable. I'm 0-2 against them. That's unacceptable."

The Jets will get a chance to end the streak Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

"I inherited -- I walked into a team that, we haven't beaten the Patriots," Wilson said. "I feel like that's why they brought me here, brought me and Sauce [Gardner] here and the guys here -- to make things like that change. It's time we do what we get paid for."

Wilson wasn't old enough to drive the last time the Jets beat the Patriots. It was Dec. 27, 2015, when he was 15 years old.

Aaron Rodgers Not Ruling Out Returning This Season

Sep 17, 2023 3:20 PM

Aaron Rodgers has not been categorically ruled out for the 2023 season after tearing his Achilles.

Cam Akers tore his Achilles in 2021 and returned in just under five months, which was faster than virtually any other professional athlete.

During an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday, Rodgers didn't dismiss the possibility of returning for the postseason but avoided giving any specific timetable.
