Cowher Didn't Want Favre As His QB

Jun 24, 2014 10:39 PM

Bill Cowher has clearly stated that he is not interested in becoming the head coach of the Jets and sources close to Cowher said he did not want to have Brett. Favre as his quarterback. He also wanted to bring in people he was familiar with to handle personnel. A source familiar with Cowher's thinking said before last night's decision came down that he would have had to receive assurances from the Jets that Favre no longer was in the picture before agreeing to take control. "There's no way he's taking Brett Favre as his quarterback," said one person close to Cowher.

Bill Cowher is not going to interview for the head coaching position of the New York Jets, according to multiple sources. Cowher, according to a source, has been contacted by the Jets. Mangini's Firing Catches Players Off Guard

Oct 9, 2014 8:22 PM

A number of Jets' players were caught off guard when news broke that coach Eric Mangini had been fired. "Had this been two years ago I would say probably guys would have been relieved more than anything," tight end Chris Baker said. "I think this year he kind of won the guys over in the locker room by changing some of the things we had done in the past. When a lot of these guys came in we were like, 'Oh you don't know what you're in for.' But he changed enough where we enjoyed coming over to the building and working together and things like that." Some even blamed themselves for Mangini's departure. "I feel that we let him down, and we could have done a better job of making plays," wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery said. "It's tough. Eric is a great guy. ... It's just tough to see him go."

"Yeah, I do," Mangini said when asked if he thought he'd be back. "Like I said, we don't discuss that. We have never discussed it throughout the course of the season, but that's my anticipation." However, New York's management was vague on Mangini's status. "We're gonna look at that," owner Woody Johnson said. "I'm gonna get my guys together after this, and we'll go through everything."
