Aaron Rodgers hinted Wednesday that he views his time with the New York Jets as lasting longer than just the 2023 season.

"This isn't a one-and-done in my mind. This is a commitment," Rodgers said.

Multiple seasons with Rodgers would make the price the Jets paid to acquire the quarterback from the Green Bay Packers much easier to swallow.

Brett Favre, who moved from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets 15 years ago, has all the confidence in the world that Aaron Rodgers will succeed with his new team.

Aaron will do great!!!!" Favre said in a text message to ESPN's Ed Werder. "He will handle the transition as well as anyone. [He's a] very smart and instinctive person, on and off the field. In other words, you're not going to catch him by surprise very often.

"And I think [he's] the best at making everyone around him better. I would rather not bet at all than bet against him."

Rodgers was elevated to the starting job in Green Bay in 2008 when Favre was dealt to the Jets in training camp.

The Jets will receive Rodgers, pick No. 15 and a 2023 fifth round pick (No. 170) for pick No. 13, a 2023 second round pick (No. 42), a sixth round pick (No. 207), and a conditional 2024 second round pick that becomes a first round pick if Rodgers plays in 65 percent of plays.

Rodgers will wear No. 8 for the Jets as No. 12 is retired by the franchise for Joe Namath.

With the NFL draft kicking off this week, the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers have re-engaged in trade talks centered around Aaron Rodgers, according to sources.

Ian Rapoport added that a deal is not imminent, but both teams are at least talking and hope a deal can be done this week.

Quinnen Williams did not report for the start of the New York Jets' offseason program.

Williams is entering the final season of his contract and previously said he wouldn't attend voluntary workouts without a new deal.

Williams is due to make $9.6 million this season, the amount of his fifth-year option.

There is no imminent deal between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets on a trade of Aaron Rodgers nearly a month after he announced his desire for a trade.

Mark Murphy declined to say whether the Packers are waiting for the Jets to accept their offer, or the other way around.

Murphy punted Tuesday when asked whether the ball is in the court of Jets general manager Joe Douglas or Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.

"I can't really get into that," Murphy said Tuesday. "I know Brian and Joe have been talking."

The New York Jets have signed veteran quarterback Tim Boyle to a one-year contract.

The Jets have yet to complete a trade for Aaron Rodgers, who Boyle backed up at times with the Green Bay Packers.

Boyle spent three seasons with the Packers, making the team in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Kentucky.

"He's just a special guy," Rodgers told reporters in 2021, when Boyle was preparing for his first career start as a member of the Detroit Lions. "I watched him grow and develop over the years with us, not just as a person, but as a player. He's got a big-time arm, and he's very athletic, as well."

The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets still haven't finalized a trade involving Aaron Rodgers, some three weeks after the quarterback announced his "intention" to play in New York.

According to Mike Florio, with the NFL Draft a little more than three weeks ago, there's no reason for the Packers and Jets to feel pressure until the draft kicks off.

The ultimate deadline, if the Packers are intent on getting one or more 2023 draft picks from the Jets, will be the moment the desired pick is on the clock.
