Aaron Rodgers: Sean Payton's Comments Over Hackett 'Inappropriate'

Jul 30, 2023 2:55 PM

Defending offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers jumped into the Sean Payton controversy Sunday with a scathing rebuke of the Denver Broncos coach.

"It made me feel bad that someone who has accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down to set themselves up for some easy fall if it doesn't go well for that team this year," Rodgers told NFL Network in a sit-down interview after practice. "I think it was way out of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep my coaches' names out of his mouth."

Sean Payton Rips Nathaniel Hackett For Broncos Job

Jul 27, 2023 1:59 PM

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton has said he doesn't want his team to look in the rearview mirror, but Payton took a long gaze back in an interview with USA Today Sports that posted Thursday.

In an expansive mood, Payton called the work Nathaniel Hackett and his staff did with the 2022 Broncos "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL" and said there were "20 dirty hands" around quarterback Russell Wilson's career-worst season that included just 16 touchdown passes and a league-high 55 sacks.

Ultimately, Payton summed it up with "everything I heard about last season, we're doing the opposite."

Aaron Rodgers, Jets Agree To Reworked Contract

Jul 26, 2023 3:43 PM

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have agreed to a reworked contract.

"The team gave up significant pieces for it to just be a one-year deal," Rodgers said. "I'm aware of that. ... Anything could happen with my body or the success we have this year, but I'm having a blast, so I really don't see this as a one-year-and-done thing."

Rodgers restructured his contract with the Green Bay Packers in April, pushing a $58.3 million option bonus into 2024.

Rodgers was essentially on the books with the Jets for $1.2 million while having a $107.6 million cap charge in 2024.

Jets Expect Aaron Rodgers To Play For Multiple Years

Jul 21, 2023 2:21 PM

The New York Jets would be shocked if Aaron Rodgers is not still their quarterback in 2024.

"I don't want to back him into a corner and make him commit to something like that," Saleh said after practice. "I just want him to have fun and know that when he walks in this building to let loose and have a little bit of fun, B.S. with the guys, come in the office, come talk to us and just enjoy playing football.

"Odds are, if you enjoy playing football, you're going to want to keep doing it. I wouldn't put pressure on him to commit to something like that anyway, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't play multiple years. He looks like a little kid out there."

Rodgers turns 40 in December and has yet to commit to more than one season.

"When you have so many great players on rookie deals, it's pretty exciting, knowing you can do something," Rodgers said. "You've got a good window. It's not just a one-year thing where you can be competitive, which is fun."

Jets Upset About 'Hard Knocks,' Will Try To Cut Key Segment

Jul 19, 2023 8:51 AM

The New York Jets were forced to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks this year and to say the team is upset about the situation may be an understatement.

Aaron Rodgers was blunt in expressing his displeasure about the decision.

During a segment on ESPN's Get Up, Adam Schefter detailed the Jets' reaction to the league forcing the appearance on them.

"Hard Knocks will not be the same," Schefter said. "They're not going to be given the same access. The Jets don't believe it's humane to show players being released so it would surprise me if we see that this summer."

Showing the team making roster cuts has always been a key segment on the show.

Jets Selected For HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

Jul 12, 2023 3:05 PM

The NFL and NFL Films have selected the New York Jets to serve as this year's team on HBO's "Hard Knocks."

The Jets have been in the spotlight throughout the offseason due to the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers.

The league's criteria for teams to be eligible for "Hard Knocks" eliminates teams with first-year head coaches, teams that qualified for the playoffs the past two seasons and teams that appeared in the past 10 seasons.

That left four teams as possibilities: the Jets, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders.
