May 14, 2024 10:03 AM

The New York Jets will travel out west to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

Sources: Jets Shake Up Performance Department

May 9, 2024 8:47 AM

The New York Jets' athletic care and performance department has undergone a shake-up in the aftermath of another injury-plagued season.

Three experts hired to lead the department are no longer with the organization, according to sources.

The department was created three years ago to combat a high injury rate.

Brad DeWeese, who was named the director of high performance in March 2021, has been let go. Also gone are his top assistants -- Robert Sausaman, the assistant director of high performance, and Matt Sams, the director of sports science.

A Jets spokesman declined comment, saying the team doesn't discuss the status of employees.

The departures weren't performance-related, a source said. Sams left on his own accord, another source said.

QB Jordan Travis Sees Himself As Aaron Rodgers' Successor

May 5, 2024 1:59 PM

The first goal is to play football again. After that, New York Jets rookie Jordan Travis -- only five months removed from a gruesome leg injury that ended his college career -- hopes to become Aaron Rodgers' heir apparent at quarterback.

It might take some time before that happens, but the former Florida State star acknowledged that the idea of succeeding 40-year-old Rodgers has crossed his mind.

"Yes, sir, I do think about that a lot," Travis said Saturday at the Jets' rookie minicamp. "But right now, I'm just focused on where my feet are, just getting healthy and getting everybody around me better, being a great teammate."

The four-time MVP, eight months removed from surgery to repair a torn left Achilles, will have "no restrictions," according to coach Robert Saleh.

"Once phase three hits, we're not anticipating any restrictions from what we can and can't do with him," Saleh said Friday at the start of a two-day rookie minicamp.

Falcons Tried To Trade Back Into First Round After Drafting Penix

May 2, 2024 9:14 AM

The Atlanta Falcons tried to trade back into the first round of last week's NFL Draft after taking Michael Penix, Jr. with the eighth overall pick, according to a report.

Specifically, the Falcons wanted to move back into the teens for UCLA pass rusher Laiatu Latu. He ultimately went No. 15 overall to the Indianapolis Colts.

The New York Jets' 2024 NFL Draft documentary on YouTube shows general manager Joe Douglas getting off the phone with the Falcons and saying, "They want to come back up to 10, so they want eight and 10."
