The New York Jets are optimistic they will acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, sources tell Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Rodgers met with Woody Johnson and others from the Jets in California.

The Jets and Packers are engaged in conversations about trade compensation and contract. Those conversations began before the meeting between Rodgers and the Jets.

Rodgers has not made any announcements about what he intends to do this coming season.

Rodgers is under contract through 2024 for $108.8 million. Technically, the contract, signed last March, runs through 2026, but 2025 and 2026 are considered "dummy" years for cap purposes. His deal includes a fully guaranteed $59.5 million this season, with $58.3 million coming in the form of an option bonus, payable before the start of the regular season.
