Frerotte Returning To St. Louis?

Free agent quarterback Gus Frerotte, who spent last season with the Vikings, is expected to sign with the Rams. Frerotte still lives in St. Louis, and played for the Rams in 2006 and 2007.

Rams Release Torry Holt

Torry Holt was released by the St. Louis Rams on Friday. Holt, 32, was due a roster bonus of $1.25 million on Tuesday. He had one year left on his contract, and his release will save the team $8 million this season: $6.65 million in base salary, a $100,000 offseason workout bonus, plus the roster bonus.

Offensive tackle Orlando Pace was released by the Rams on Tuesday after struggling through injuries in recent seasons. The move clears $6 million in salary-cap space for the St. Louis, who was 2-14 last season and has the No. 2 overall pick in next month's NFL draft. "I can't begin to thank Orlando for all he has meant to the Rams organization," owner Chip Rosenbloom added in the statement. "It is never easy to end a relationship that has had as much success as ours, but in the interest of Orlando and the Rams, we feel now is the right time."
