Report: Rams Hire Steve Spagnulo As Coach
The Rams have hired Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo as their new head coach, according to an Associated Press report on Saturday.
Spagnuolo replaces Jim Haslett and takes over a team that finished 2-14.
Haslett Out Of Running For Rams Job
Jim Haslett has been eliminated from consideration for the Rams coaching job.
Haslett was 2-10 after being promoted from defensive coordinator when Scott Linehan was fired.
"Jim took over an impossible situation," GM Billy Devaney said. "He kept the team focused and playing hard, and, as an organization, we are much better off for his contribution.
"We decided that, after going through the interview process and in the spirit of that process, it was best to let Jim know that we are going to go in a new direction."
Martz Interested In Rams Coordinator Job
Mike Martz told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday that he would be interested in returning to the Rams to work on Jim Haslett's staff, assuming the coach is retained.
"He's the only guy that I would consider (working for)," Martz said. "I think the world of him. I think he's an outstanding head coach."
Is Being Head Coach Of Rams The Worst Job In The NFL?
Speaking on New York's WFAN, Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer said the Rams' head-coaching job "is all set up to keep Jim Haslett."
Glazer explained: "I tell you what, that's an awful job. The problem is, the owner doesn't know if he's going to keep the team, they're not going to want to pay an awful lot of money for a head coach, they're not going to want to pay a lot of money for a new staff, for players. That is the worst job that you can have, in my opinion, in the league right now."
