Rams Likely To Draft QB In First Round

Sep 27, 2014 2:49 PM

Unless Marc Bulger turns things around drastically, the Rams are expected to select a quarterback in the 2010 NFL Draft. The franchise hasn't used a first round pick on a quarterback since 1964. "If you want to be successful long-term, you need that long-term quarterback," said Lions coach Jim Schwartz, who grabbed Matt Stafford with the first pick in April's draft. "If you don't have a good quarterback ... you can win as long as you have a really, really good team around him. But if you have a really good quarterback, a lot of times that guy can carry you through a lot of other situations. That was important for us."

Eagles Trade For LB Witherspoon

Sep 8, 2014 2:30 PM

The Eagles have acquired linebacker Will Witherspoon from the Rams in exchange for rookie wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick. "I think [Gibson] is going to have a great career in the NFL," Eagles coach Andy Reid said during a conference call. "That doesn't make this an easy situation. We started off the season thinking we were in pretty good shape at [middle linebacker], and now we've been banged up a little here, so we needed to make this move to stay strong there. That's the only reason I would have done something like this." The Eagles have lost Stewart Bradley and now Omar Gaither to injuries.

Steven Jackson Frustrated With Production

Mar 17, 2014 6:18 AM

Rams running back Steven Jackson is frustrated with his production so far this season. "It's been a rough one in my opinion," Jackson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I've yet to reach the end zone. I have two fumbles on the year. ... So although I've been racking up yards, I've yet to lead this team to victory. And those kinds of mistakes that I've had in the last five games won't help." Since becoming a starter in 2005, Jackson had not gone more than three consecutive games without scoring a touchdown until now.

Limbaugh Blames 'Obama's America' For Ousting

Oct 31, 2014 6:27 AM

Rush Limbaugh blames others for him being dropped from the group that's trying to buy the St. Louis Rams. On his syndicated show Thursday, Limbaugh said he was approached by St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts earlier this year about participating in a Rams bid. Limbaugh also said Checketts assured him that his involvement as a minority investor had been vetted by the NFL. "I said to him at this meeting, 'Are you aware of the firestorm?' He said, 'We wouldn't have approached you if we hadn't taken care of that,'" Limbaugh said. During a 15-minute counterattack at the start of his show Thursday, Limbaugh said he believes he has been made an example by a players union that's seeking leverage in talks over a new collective bargaining agreement. And he believed what happened to him was an illustration of "Obama's America on full display."

Rush Limbaugh is expected to be dropped from a group bidding to buy the Rams, according to sources. Dave Checketts, the point man in the Limbaugh group attempting to buy the St. Louis franchise, realizes he must remove the controversial radio host from his potential role as a minority member in order to get approval from other NFL owners, the sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Three-quarters of the league's 32 owners would have to approve any sale to Limbaugh and his group.

Union Opposes Limbaugh's Bid For Rams

Feb 3, 2014 6:39 AM

The NFL Players Association opposes Rush Limbaugh's bid to buy the Rams. Limbaugh is part of a group that aims to purchase the franchise. In an e-mail to the union's executive committee on Saturday specifically addressing Limbaugh's bid, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said, "I've spoken to the Commissioner [Roger Goodell] and I understand that this ownership consideration is in the early stages. But sport in America is at its best when it unifies, gives all of us reason to cheer, and when it transcends. Our sport does exactly that when it overcomes division and rejects discrimination and hatred."
