Rams May Rest Several Key Starters In Regular Season Finale

Dec 27, 2017 10:59 AM

The Los Angeles Rams may sit several key starters for their regular season finale against the 49ers.

The Rams clinched the division title and aren't in a position to play for a first round bye.

"Every single game is important," Sean McVay told the media from the team facility in Thousand Oaks, California. "But I think it will provide an opportunity for us to potentially get some guys healthier, rest them, give some other guys a chance to step up. How that affects the guys that are healthy that we want to be smart with is going to be determined as the week progresses. But it is one of those deals where I think you might see us rest some guys."

McVay also mentioned inside linebackers Mark Barron and Alec Ogletree as candidates to not play.

The Rams are currently in line to play the Falcons, but could also end up playing the Seahawks.

"I think really what we've discussed is when you really take into consideration that there's four potential teams that we can play -- all of them are very, very good football teams, and however it plays out, you're going to be on the road the following week," McVay said. "When you look at getting guys healthy, knowing that you are going to be able to play a home playoff game, and then you think about kind of the risk-reward, we feel like that's probably going to be the best decision, is to rest some of those guys for our team."

Sean McVay: Todd Gurley Deserves MVP Consideration

Dec 19, 2017 6:33 PM

Sean McVay has endorsed Todd Gurley as an MVP candidate as the season winds down.

Gurley totaled 180 yards and scored four touchdowns in an important win for the Los Angeles Rams over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

The running back leads the NFL in touchdowns (17) and ranks second in all-purpose yards (1,817).

"I'm obviously going to be biased to Todd," McVay said, "but I think if you just look at it from a production standpoint, he's as productive as any player."

Gurley trails Le'Veon Bell by 32 all-purpose yards, but has 76 fewer touches.

Carson Wentz (ACL) and Antonio Brown (calf) were in the MVP conversation, but injuries have firmly placed Tom Brady as the favorite with two weeks remaining.

"He's certainly is a special player," McVay said. "With Todd's success, that is a reflection of our offensive unit, but I think it's a great honor for him. I think he certainly has put himself into legitimate (MVP) conversations with that, just based on the production and what he has meant to our team."

Infographic: Five Teams Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA

Dec 13, 2017 12:29 PM

The NFL has five teams ranking in the top-10 in DVOA on both Offense and Defense after Week 14. In an indication of how much turnover there's been in parts of the NFL, none of those five teams (Rams, Eagles, Vikings, Saints and Chargers) made the playoffs in 2016.

The Chiefs, Cowboys, Steelers, Falcons and Patriots also rank in the top-10 on offense, while the Jaguars, Broncos, Panthers, Ravens and Cardinals rank in the top-10 on defense.

The Seahawks, who have consistently been one of the NFL's top teams in DVOA during the Russell Wilson era, are just outside the top-10 in both categories.
