Ravens Took Rashod Bateman 27th, Fearing Packers Would At 29th

May 26, 2021 8:52 AM

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Rashod Bateman with the 27th pick this spring.

Baltimore also had the 31st pick, but they feared the Green Bay Packers would select the wide receiver at 29th.

"Certainly, we knew [the Packers] liked him and a lot of teams like Rashod," Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz said. "We don’t know for certain, but you do try to pay attention to, 'OK, the GMs were at this pro day' — especially this year because the GMs weren't able to get out and see players. Brian [Gutekunst] is going to look at players that he was interested in."

Aaron Rodgers: Issue With Packers' Philosophy, Not Jordan Love

May 26, 2021 8:53 AM

Aaron Rodgers says his issues with the Green Bay Packers are about the team's organizational philosophy and not the drafting of Jordan Love last year.

Rodgers made an appearance on Sportscenter on Monday night to commemorate Kenny Mayne's final show on ESPN.

While Rodgers admitted that things changed significantly last year when Brian Gutekunst traded up to draft Love, he suggested his beef was more with how the general manager handled it.

"With my situation, look it's never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan," Rodgers told Mayne. "I love Jordan; he's a great kid. [We've had] a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years. It's just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It's about character, it's about culture, it's about doing things the right way."

Packers Dispute Notion Aaron Rodgers Was Told He'd Be Traded

May 13, 2021 11:20 AM

There is a belief in some league circles that Aaron Rodgers was under the impression that the Green Bay Packers had agreed to trade him at some point in the offseason.

The Packers, however, reversed course.

According to a source with the Packers, the team regards that notion he'd be traded as "unequivocally false."

It is possible Rodgers believes a promise was made and it's also possible that no such promise was actually made.

Packers GM: Jordan Love Has 'A Long Way To Go'

May 11, 2021 8:54 AM

If Aaron Rodgers leaves the Green Bay Packers, they'd likely have to turn to 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love at quarterback.

However, Brian Gutekunst isn't sure if the youngster is ready.

"He's got a long way to go," Gutekunst said of Love after the first round of this year's draft.

He did note, however, that the team is "ecstatic for his development. Obviously we think the world of Jordan and where he's going to grow and develop. I think it's pretty early to be able to tell you that because obviously with no preseason games last year and just kind of the no-spring, but we have a lot of confidence in his talents, in his work ethic and where he's going to go. But it's a little early for that."

Davante Adams' Fate Could 'Potentially' Hinge On Aaron Rodgers

May 12, 2021 7:57 AM

The potential departure of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay is starting to have a trickle-down effect.

Davante Adams is in the final year of his contract with the Packers, and if his quarterback is done in Green Bay, then it could complicate things for the wide receiver.

"Potentially, potentially; that's my guy," Adams told Fox Sports Radio. "That's the only guy that I've had -- other than that 2017 season, when he got hurt. That's the only guy that I've played with. We've built up a special connection over the years that has put us both in really good positions in our career. Not that he needed me to come along for it, because he was already in that spot, but we've established a lot together.

"So, it would change a lot. Doesn't mean potentially I'd be gone, but I'd definitely have to do some extra thinking if my guy wasn't here."

Packers Reportedly Offered Aaron Rodgers Huge Contract

May 10, 2021 9:47 AM

At some point this offseason, the Green Bay Packers tried to patch their relationship with Aaron Rodgers by offering him a huge contract.

According to a report, the Packers offered to make Rodgers the NFL's highest-paid quarterback.

The report doesn't say when the offer came, but only that it happened in "recent months." Ultimately no deal was reached because Rodgers turned the offer aside.

Making Rodgers the league's highest-paid quarterback would mean a deal worth more than $45 million per year.

Ex-Teammate: Aaron Rodgers 'Conflicted' About Future

May 7, 2021 8:56 AM

Former Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn says he has talked with Aaron Rodgers since the news broke last Thursday of the quarterback's unhappiness with the organization.

During an appearance on "The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio," Kuhn said he wouldn't disclose the exact details of their conversation but painted a picture of a quarterback who is evaluating all aspects of the situation and hasn't made up his mind.

"He's conflicted because this man loves to play the game of football, this man loves to be a Green Bay Packer and this man truly sees careers," Kuhn said during the interview. "He's watched friends leave, he watched Brett Favre's career toward the end. He's watched all these things play out in front of his eyes; he's taken notes throughout his career. He's seen some situations that didn't feel were done or finished the way that they could or should have.

"He's just trying to take his earned destiny within his own hands. To that effect, I actually admire him because not many players in the NFL have that opportunity. I sure as heck didn't. I played until everybody told me 'you can't play anymore,' and it's a humbling feeling. Aaron Rodgers has an opportunity to take a little bit of that power."
