Apr 30, 2021 5:38 PM

Aaron Rodgers is prepared to give serious consideration to retirement if his situation with the Green Bay Packers is not repaired.

Packers 'Committed' To Aaron Rodgers, Not Trading Him

Apr 30, 2021 5:38 PM

The Green Bay Packers remain committed to Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback and have no plans to trade him.

"We've been working through this for a little while now, and I just think it may take some time," general manager Brian Gutekunst said. "But he's a guy that kind of makes this thing go. He gives us the best chance to win, and we're going to work towards that end."

Gutekunst discussed Rodgers hours after a report earlier in the day that the quarterback has become so disgruntled with the team that he has told some members of the organization he does not want to return to the Packers.

Rodgers, 37, is under contract through the 2023 season but has no more guaranteed money left on his deal.

"We're not going to trade Aaron Rodgers," Gutekunst said.

Aaron Rodgers Wants To Leave Packers

Apr 29, 2021 8:07 PM

Aaron Rodgers has told some within the Green Bay Packers that he has become so disgruntled with the franchise that he does not want to return to the team.

Rodgers has not budged from his stance despite being visited by several key members of the Packers.

There are some members of the Packers that aren't sure when Rodgers would report if he's not traded.

Green Bay traded up to select quarterback Jordan Love during last year's draft and didn't inform Rodgers in advance of that decision.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Brian Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

The Packers have offered Rodgers a contract extension this offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers reached out to the Packers about a possible trade for Rodgers on Wednesday.

Packers View Aaron Rodgers As QB For 'Foreseeable Future'

Apr 26, 2021 9:04 PM

The Green Bay Packers view Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback for the "foreseeable future."

"That's kind of something we're working through," Brian Gutekunst said. "You know, it's something that we've talked about quite a bit as we've worked through this salary-cap situation, which is really kind of a two-year situation. We've looked at a lot of different things and that's one of them."

Rodgers has no more guaranteed money left on the $134 million extension he signed in 2018 that runs through the 2023 season.

"Aaron's our guy; he's going to be our quarterback for the foreseeable future," Gutekunst added. "We're excited about the kind of the things we're going to try to accomplish here over the next couple years. So we certainly think with the contract that you're kind of talking about is something we'll work through. We're going to have to do probably a few things with different contracts as we head toward the season and then through the season to make sure that our salary cap situation, not only this year, but in 2022 is square. So we're not done yet. We've done a lot to get here. We've kind of been doing things as we go and we will continue to do that as we go."

Aaron Rodgers: My MVP Season Threw Wrench Into Green Bay's Timelines

Apr 5, 2021 4:37 PM

Aaron Rodgers remains under contract with the Green Bay Packers through the 2023 season, but they could receive significant cap space if they moved on after the 2021 season either by a trade or release.

"I think we're exactly where we were last year when I made comments after the draft and throughout the season," Rodgers told Pat McAfee. "I don't feel like any of that has changed. Even my comments directly after the last game -- and we talked about it on this show -- some thought or made assumptions based on what I said, but nothing's really changed. My future, is really, a lot of it is out of my control. That's why I've used the phrase like "beautiful mystery," because it is quite uncertain which direction things are going to go."

Rodgers won his third NFL MVP in 2020 and led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game.

"All I can do is play my best, and I feel like last year I did do that," Rodgers said. "That may have thrown a wrench into some timelines that may have been thought about or desired, but ultimately things haven't really changed on that front. I meant what I said last year about really being at peace with the whole thing and that hasn't changed. I feel good about the way I played. Feel good about the way I led. ... Everything else is kind of for speculation, and I'm sure there will be plenty of it.

"It doesn't mean I can't be honest about how I thought those events would affect my future in Green Bay, and I said what I said last year and it's still a reality and that really hasn't changed."
