Aaron Rodgers Thinks He'll Be Back With Packers, But No NFL Absolutes

Jan 27, 2021 8:07 AM

A few days after creating speculation about his future with the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers said he has reason to think he will be back with the only team he has ever played for during his 16-year NFL career.

"I don't think that there is any reason why I wouldn't be back," Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. "But look, there's not many absolutes in this business. So to make an absolute statement about something that is not an absolute, I didn't do it. And I guess that's why it went kind of nuts."

Rodgers still has three seasons left on his current contract, but the deal has reached the point where the Packers could now move on and gain salary-cap space.

Source: Aaron Rodgers Wants New Contract

Jan 26, 2021 10:11 PM

Aaron Rodgers wants a new contract, according to a source.

The desire for a new deal may have been why Rodgers appeared to send a message publicly following the Green Bay Packers' loss in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Expected to win the 2020 NFL MVP award, Rodgers will make $22.35 million in 2021, $25.5 million in 2022, and $25.5 million in 2023.

Rodgers has a cap number in excess of $37 million for 2021, but a new contract easily could reduce it.

Aaron Rodgers Uncertain About Future With Packers

Jan 25, 2021 2:22 PM

Aaron Rogers said after Sunday's loss in the NFC Championship Game that he isn't sure about his future with the Green Bay Packers.

"[The Packers have] a lot of guys' futures that are uncertain -- myself included," Rodgers said as part of an answer about how different the team could look next season and what the 2020 season meant to him. "That's what's sad about it, most, getting this far. Obviously, it's going to be an end at some point, whether we make it past this one or not, but just the uncertainty's tough and finality of it all."

Rodgers, 37, is expected to be named the NFL MVP and is under contract 2023 via the $134 million contract extension he signed in 2018. He has a salary-cap charge of $36.3 million in 2021 and $39.9 million in 2022.

Green Bay traded up to select Rodgers' possible eventual replacement, Jordan Love, with the 26th pick in last year's draft.

Aaron Rodgers Says His 'Future Is A Beautiful Mystery'

Jan 21, 2021 8:55 AM

As he prepares for his fifth NFC Championship Game, Aaron Rodgers isn't looking at his future with any trepidation.

"I'm always just trying to stay present, especially this year as much as anything, and enjoy the moments," Rodgers said. "I hope there's more opportunities, but I don't know. I mean, I really don't. That stuff is out of my control. My future is a beautiful mystery I think. The present is such a gift to be able to stay in the moment and to have gratitude for being in this situation again, and being with the guys and having fans in our stadium and maybe snow in an NFC Championship Game. I'm going to enjoy these moments for sure, and just not worry about what happens down the line."

The Green Bay Packers will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend with a Super Bowl appearance on the line.

"No more pressure than usual," Rodgers said when asked if there's more pressure on him and the Packers this year. "I think a lot of times the storylines, pressure and those kinds of comments are good stuff for you guys to write about, but I think it starts with the mentality and focus. Obviously I put pressure on myself to perform every single week, and I think there's a lot to be said for being able to harness that pressure and fear of failure and focus into a real positive. That's something you learn over the years. But I don't feel any extra pressure going into this one.

"Definitely thankful to be back here. A lot of people didn't think we'd be back here after last season. We got a lot of interesting comments last year about us being the worst 13-3 team that people had seen. Not the same type of comments this [time]. Obviously we're clicking a lot better on offense, I do feel really thankful to be back here, thankful for the chance to be playing."

Aaron Rodgers Will Serve As Guest Host On Jeopardy!

Jan 13, 2021 8:50 AM

Aaron Rodgers says he'll serve as a guest host for an episode of "Jeopardy!" -- his favorite game show.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback appeared as a contestant on a celebrity edition in 2015.

A representative from "Jeopardy!'' declined to comment and said no announcement has been made about future guest hosts.

"I may have jumped the gun a little bit, so I apologize to 'Jeopardy!' if they wanted to announce it," Rodgers said. "I just got so excited on the show earlier. It just went down the last couple of days, us figuring it out. It is very exciting. It's for the offseason. We'll be even more excited when that opportunity gets a little closer, but, man, the show has been so special to me over the years.

"It's been a staple at my house here in Green Bay for the last 16 years -- 6 o'clock watching Alex [Trebek] and trying to get as many questions as I can."

Jared Veldheer Signs With Packers Following Playoff Game With Colts

Jan 11, 2021 8:27 PM

Jared Veldheer started at left tackle for the Indianapolis Colts in their Wildcard game at the Buffalo Bills and has signed with the Green Bay Packers.

Veldheer will become the first player in NFL history to play postseason games for two different playoff teams in the same season.

Veldheer is allowed to sign with Green Bay because he was on the Colts' practice squad and was elevated only for the Colts' playoff game and not signed to the 53-man roster.

The Packers lost left tackle David Bakhtiari to a torn ACL in practice leading up to the regular season finale.
