Packers To Play Eagles In Friday Night Game In Brazil

Apr 11, 2024 10:00 AM

The Green Bay Packers will be the opponent for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL's first-ever game in South America.

The game will be played in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 6 -- one night after the traditional season opener involving the defending Super Bowl champions.

It will be the first time since 1970 that the NFL has played a Friday night game in Week 1.

The Eagles had previously been announced as the home team for the Brazil game, which will be played at the Corinthians Arena, the home to Brazilian soccer club SC Corinthians.

Cutting Aaron Jones, Signing Josh Jacobs Surprised Matt LaFleur

Apr 1, 2024 8:49 AM

Matt LaFleur expected Aaron Jones to be back with the Green Bay Packers -- until he wasn't.

The Packers cut Jones and then signed Josh Jacobs in free agency.

"It kind of caught me off guard, to be honest with you," LaFleur said. "There were some other things in play, obviously with Aaron Jones, and I didn't quite know how everything was going to go. It just happened really fast on that Monday."

The Packers had hoped to convince Jones to take a pay cut, but he declined and was released instead. He signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Vikings, while the Packers gave Jacobs a four-year, $48 million contract.

"It happened really fast, so I don't know all the details of that," LaFleur said. "I'm not involved in those types of conversations. But we were super excited [to get Jacobs]."
