Aaron Rodgers Top Choice For Trade Was 49ers

Sep 26, 2021 8:30 AM

The San Francisco 49ers were the first choice of Aaron Rodgers this past offseason as he sought a trade.

The 49ers reached out to the Green Bay Packers about a trade for Rodgers before they traded up to eventually select Trey Lance.

During media availability this week, Rodgers was asked if he thought the 49ers would trade for him, he admitted he pondered it.

"There were points where I thought anything was possible," Rodgers said this week. "Definitely. But not a strong possibility."

After the 49ers traded up to draft Lance, the Denver Broncos emerged as a possible destination.

Jimmy Garoppolo Might Talk To Aaron Rodgers About Handling Future

Sep 22, 2021 9:05 AM

Jimmy Garoppolo might discuss how to handle his uncertain future as the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers with this week's opponent -- Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers expressed his displeasure with the Packers this offseason before reporting to camp.

Garoppolo's financial situation is different than Rodgers' was heading into this season. He has one more year on his contract, set to earn $24.2 million in base salary, but none of it is guaranteed. The lack of guarantees led most to believe the 49ers would move on from the QB this year after drafting Trey Lance or at least try to get him to take a pay cut.

"Yeah, there's a good possibility," Garoppolo said of contacting Rodgers. "I know Aaron pretty well. We've talked a couple of times on the field, off the field. Whatever little piece of advice he could give to me. ... Obviously, it's worked out pretty well for him. The guy's been ballin'. He had four TDs [last] night.

"This league's a crazy thing. We've all got our own story and just got to make the best of your situation."

Matt LaFleur: Rodgers Drama Didn't Influence Blowout Loss

Sep 14, 2021 9:05 AM

Matt LaFleur said Monday that the drama surrounding Aaron Rodgers this offseason didn't play a role in the Green Bay Packers' blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

"I think this team's focused on now," LaFleur said. "And unfortunately, sometimes in this league you get humbled. And certainly we got humbled. Like I said, it's about how we respond to that. How we come back to work. How we stay together. And get ready to play against a team I know is gonna be really hungry coming in here."

The Packers will look to get back on track against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

Aaron Rodgers: We Were Probably A Little Too High On Ourselves

Sep 13, 2021 9:22 AM

Aaron Rodgers was honest after the Green Bay Packers suffered a 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Rodgers was 15-of-28 for 133 yards and two interceptions and said "I played bad" when discussing his performance after the game.

The quarterback suggested that the team might have thought they were better than they are heading into the game.

"Yeah, I think so," Rodgers said. "I think there's probably some of that. We probably felt like we were going to go up and down the field on whoever they had out there. . . . This is a good kick in the you-know-where to hopefully get us going in the right direction."
