Jim Harbaugh Disputes Notion Of Players Wanting Him Out

Oct 21, 2014 5:02 PM

Some players on the San Francisco 49ers would like Jim Harbaugh to be replaced as head coach, according to Deion Sanders.

"They want him out. They're not on the same page," Sanders said. "I really want to know if they're really playing for the head coach. I got a question with that. Are you really down with your head coach, San Francisco 49ers? Because the way it looks and what I'm hearing, you're really not down for your head coach. And that's a problem.

"They really got some problems that we hear rumblings. We all know people inside locker rooms."

Harbaugh was asked about those comments during his Monday press conference.

"Personally, I think that's a bunch of crap," said Harbaugh.

Sanders didn't specify which players he spoke to, but he was involved with Michael Crabtree early in his career.

Ian Rapoport also reported that grumblings about Harbaugh are getting "louder and louder" because he treats his players like "children."

49ers Return To Old Identity In Week 4

Oct 21, 2014 5:02 PM

The San Francisco 49ers returned to their roots and emphasized the run in their Week 4 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

"It’s who we are and I’m happy to be back to that," said right guard Alex Boone. "That is our identity, and we need to run the ball like that every week. It’s no surprise, and it was a good day for Frank and a good day for the offensive line, and a great day for Kap. A win is a win."

The 49ers had been throwing the ball a lot, using four and five-receiver sets.

"I just think as a team we’ve got so many weapons," said Frank Gore. "I think we’ve just got to do whatever it takes. Coach G-Ro calls a pass or a run, we’ve just got to fight for each other and get it done. We’ve got to talk and then do it. We’ve just got to go out there and do it.

"It was a tough game, but a great win. Philly is a great team. With our backs against the wall, it was a must-win."

49ers Want To Be More Fluid On Offense

Dec 4, 2014 11:13 PM

Greg Roman wants the San Francisco 49ers' offense to be more fluid in Week 4.

The 49ers gave Frank Gore just one carry in the entire second half.

“With what [the Cardinals] were doing going into the game, I mean, they were selling out, like, full, waving-the-flag selling out to stop the run,” Roman said Thursday. “You always want to get Frank involved, but again, you’ve got to kind of weigh how much, when and how. And then you’ve got to factor in everything that you think is going to happen and then everything that is actually happening.”

The 49ers had a 14-6 lead at halftime.

“So, you got to be fluid with it,” Roman continued. “I think, for example last week, we had a plan that was different than the one we utilized early in the game and the other plan was working pretty good. So, shoot, we’re not getting to that other plan. And that’s pretty much every week, to be honest with you.”

Oct 21, 2014 5:02 PM

Vernon Davis missed Week 3 with a deltoid ligament injury in his left ankle and will be a game-time decision for Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Davis was initially told he would miss 2.5 weeks with the injury.

"It feels a lot better than last week," he said.

Davis has practiced in a limited fashion all week and was listed Friday as questionable.

Chip Kelly, Greg Roman Shared Ideas In 2011, 2012

Oct 31, 2014 5:52 PM

Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman competed against Chip Kelly while they were in the Pac-12 and again in the NFL, but they shared ideas after the former two were hired by the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers host the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

“(They’re) two guys I have great respect for,” said Kelly, the former Oregon coach, in a conference call Wednesday morning with Bay Area reporters.

“Greg has come up to visit when I was at Oregon and when they went to the 49ers. Obviously, when he was at Stanford and I was at Oregon, we didn’t share any notes on anything. But when they got to the League, Greg came up once and visited with us. And we shared ideas. And I had an opportunity during an open date when I was at Oregon in-season (2012) to go down and visit with those guys. Two guys I have great, great respect for -- two really good football coaches.”

The 49ers are using more wide receivers this season.

“They’re a little bit more exotic than they were even at Stanford,” Kelly said. “I think maybe because they have more time with their players, and they got smart players on the offensive side of the ball. I’ve had a lot of respect for Jimmy and Greg Roman going against them because they can scheme up the run game as good as anyone I’ve ever seen.”

San Jose Police Haven't Released Info On Ray McDonald

Oct 21, 2014 5:05 PM

The San Jose police have been quiet about the pending case against Ray McDonald, but they’re saying nothing about what they’ve learned.

“As a professional law enforcement organization we try not to offer a personal opinion on incidents we are responsible for investigating,” officer Albert Morales told Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.  “To that end, our investigators continue to diligently conduct follow up investigations on this case.  At this time we are not at liberty to share any information that is directly related to this investigation.”

Per Maiocco, McDonald met with investigators for two hours on September 4 at the team’s facility.  At some point, more will be known about the case.  At some point, the 49ers may have to revisit their position.

NaVorro Bowman Begins Running For First Time Since ACL Injury

Oct 13, 2014 5:10 PM

NaVorro Bowman has begun to sprint and run for the first time since tearing his ACL in the NFC Championship Game.

“I must admit there’s times when I look out of my peripheral vision and see them doing their workouts on the turf over there,” Jim Harbaugh said, via the 49ers site. “It looked like he was moving pretty good, so that’s very positive.”

Bowman is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which means he's out until at least the seventh week of the season.
