Kaepernick: I Did Nothing Wrong In Miami Incident

Nov 27, 2014 4:27 PM

Colin Kaepernick reiterated he did nothing wrong in an incident that took place last month in Miami. Kaepernick addressed the media for the first time on Wednesday since those reports became public.

“The district attorney has the information today,” Kaepernick said. “At this point, I’m going to let them handle their business. I did nothing wrong in that incident. So I want to do everything I can to let the DA close this matter.”

Said Kaepernick: “(I’m) very eager to have the matter closed. But, once again, going to let the DA handle their business and wait for their decision.”

Vernon Davis Losing $200,000 Workout Bonus By Skipping OTAs

Dec 5, 2014 10:38 PM

Vernon Davis is forfeiting his $200,000 workout bonus by his absence from voluntary offseason workouts.

Davis is scheduled to make base salaries of $4.7 million and $4.35 million in the final two years of his contracts, as well as a possible $400,000 in roster bonuses in each of those seasons.

When asked for the reason for Davis’ lack of attendance in the offseason program, Jim Harbaugh said, “As you know, the workouts are voluntary. That would be the reason.”

49ers At Forefront Of Redshirting Trend

Nov 8, 2014 7:16 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have been at the forefront of redshirting drafted players that are undervalued due to injuries.

Tank Carradine and Marcus Lattimore were widely considered first round talents before suffering season-ending knee injuries.

"To answer the question, yes, it is a conscious decision we made to do that," Baalke said from his office Friday, as rookie minicamp kicked off in Santa Clara. "You know there's a possibility that, if the board falls a certain way, that's a decision that could be made. But it's not just the last two years -- we've just been in position to make those picks the last two years. It really comes down to value."

The 49ers most famously took a gamble on that type of player in drafting Frank Gore, who had already torn both ACLs in college.

"Any time a player gets injured, there's the possibility that they never reach pre-injury form again," Baalke said. "That's a reality of what we do. But at the same time, it goes back to the risk-reward and the work you do. What's your research? You can minimize the risk by doing a very good job in researching the injury, in researching the individual. You increase your odds of a positive outcome by being thorough."

LaMichael James Reports To 49ers

May 27, 2014 8:46 AM

LaMichael James reported to the San Francisco 49ers this week.

James' previous absence means he forfeits a $50,000 workout bonus in his contract and was viewed as a signal that he is unhappy with his role on offense and wants a trade.

James is the team's primary punt and kick returner, something he did well last season after Kyle Williams was released.

49ers Offer Tryout To Bemidji State Basketball Player

Oct 31, 2014 9:21 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have offered a tryout to Zach Noreen, a player Trent Baalke saw play on Bemidji State's basketball team.

rn

Noreen hasn't played football since 2009, when he was a senior in high school in Avon, Minn., but he said that he had been approached by Bemidji State football coaches, who had wanted him to play tight end for the Beavers. He went through spring practice last month at Bemidji, and now is bound for San Francisco.

"I got a call (May 10) ... and they said, 'Hey, we were talking about you. What do you think about coming down for rookie camp?'" Noreen told the Times. "Well, I'm not going to say 'no.'"

Marcus Lattimore Has Had No Issues With Knee

May 27, 2014 10:16 PM

The San Francisco 49ers drafted a running back in the second round of last week's draft, but that doesn't mean Marcus Lattimore has suffered a setback.

Lattimore tore three ligaments in his left knee in October 2012 and spent his first NFL season rehabbing.

“It’s been going good,” Lattimore told 49ers.com on Thursday. “I’m real happy because I’ve had no knee problems, nothing in my knee, no soreness, no swelling.”

Bills Tried To Trade Up For Carlos Hyde

Jul 2, 2014 7:26 AM

The Buffalo Bills attempted to trade up to select Carlos Hyde.

Hyde, a running back out of Ohio State, was picked by the San Francisco 49ers.

“What we were told by Miami was the 49ers deal was more appealing because they didn’t have to drop down as far because San Francisco still had a pick in the second round so that made sense to them and it made sense to us,” Doug Whaley said.

The 49ers picked Hyde and the Bills moved on to trade for Bryce Brown to round out their backfield for the 2014 season.

Stevie Johnson: We're All No. 1 Receiving Options

Jun 13, 2014 9:57 PM

Stevie Johnson has been the Buffalo Bills' No. 1 wide receiver over the past four seasons, but he will be one of many strong weapons on the San Francisco 49ers.

Johnson, Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Quinton Patton and Vernon Davis may not be on the level of Calvin Johnson individually, but they make up a strong group in aggregate.

“Right now, we’re all ones,” Johnson said, via the team’s website. “The defense has gotta pick their poison, whether they’re going to double-team Anquan, whether they’re going to double-team Crab, Vernon, me, Q.P. is coming in – you gotta pick your poison. We gotta handle our business.”
