49ers Likely Would Choose Baalke Over Harbaugh If Forced

Oct 31, 2014 12:43 PM

Jed York asked Jim Harabaugh directly in December if he had interest in leaving the San Francisco 49ers for Texas or USC when those schools were interested in him.

Harabugh said he wanted to stay with the 49ers.

York previously tipped his hand that if it came down to a choice between Harabaugh and Trent Baalke, he would lean toward Baalke.

Baalke is signed through 2016 and has full control over the roster.

Baalke also has "the more stable personality" than Harbaugh.

Haslam Admits Opportunity Existed To Acquire Jim Harabaugh

Sep 3, 2014 9:19 PM

Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Cleveland Browns, confirmed Sunday in a comment to USA Today that there was some dialogue with the San Francisco 49ers about Jim Harbaugh.

"There was an opportunity there, and it didn't materialize," Haslam said.

Harbaugh revealed during a press conference on Jan. 21 after the 49ers were eliminated by the Seattle Seahawks that he had spoken with the Browns "regarding our coaches."

The 49ers denied the Pro Football Talk report on Friday that the club nearly traded Harbaugh to the Browns for draft picks.

Team CEO Jed York wrote on Twitter, “Report isn’t true.”

In a text message to CSN Bay Area’s Dave Feldman, Harbaugh wrote, “For the record, I echo Jed York’s comment…’isn’t true.’ I know nothing about a trade with the Cleveland Browns and us involving me.”

Harbaugh has two years remaining on the five-year, $25 million contract he signed in January 2011.

Kaepernick, 49ers Open Contract Negotiations

Oct 30, 2014 11:20 AM

The San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick met on Friday to begin preliminary contract negotiations.

Kaepernick was in Indianapolis to meet with the 49ers at the combine.

Kaepernick is entering the final season of his rookie contract and is due to earn approximately $974,000.

Kaepernick was inconsistent at times in his first full season as a starter, but clearly has the potential of being one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL and capable of winning a Super Bowl.

Cardinals Building Defense With Kaepernick, Wilson In Mind

Aug 29, 2014 7:47 AM

The Arizona Cardinals are paying particular attention to Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson as they construct their defense.

“When you look at those two quarterbacks in particular, guys that not only can beat you with their arm but they can beat you with their feet, as well,” Cardinals' general manager Steve Keim said. “We felt like last year we had to get longer and more athletic on defense to try to be able to play on the perimeter with those guys.

“Because when plays break down, those guys get outside the pocket with their feet, so you have to have guys like (Karlos) Dansby and guys like Daryl Washington who can run and cover ground and play outside the box.”

The Cardinals had an excellent 10-6 record, but finished in third place in the NFC West.

49ers Could Again Use Rookie Redshirt Strategy In Draft

Oct 1, 2014 5:34 AM

With the San Francisco 49ers owning so many draft picks, they could again take players coming off injuries that are undervalued due to those concerns.

In last year's draft, the 49ers selected Tank Carradine and Marcus Lattimore. Both players missed the 2013 season.

The 49ers expect both players to contribute this season.

Dominique Easley may be the best prospect coming off a significant injury in this year's draft. Easley was a first round talent on the defensive line and could be a late second or early third round pick.

Antone Exum is another candidate, with cornerback being a position of need for the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers own an NFL-high 11 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft and are likely to receive a 12th pick when compensatory selections are handed out.

The 49ers parlayed their multiple picks to move up for Eric Reid and are expected to make a similar move this year.

The 49ers are the only playoff team to hold more than the standard seven selections in the 2014 NFL Draft.
