Harbaugh 'Working Well' With Baalke, Wants To Remain With 49ers

Oct 30, 2014 7:23 AM

The working relationship between Jim Harbaugh and Trent Baalke seems to be going well this offseason as evidenced by the trades for Blaine Gabbert and Jonathan Martin.

"A lot has been made about the relationship between Trent and I and it’s good; we don’t like to talk about it that much ‘Trent and Jim,’ you know? This is a team effort here," said Harbaugh.

"This is an organization where you’ve got a lot of coaches that are putting in a lot of work when it comes to evaluating free agency or the draft, same on the personnel side. Trent has a great staff; they work extremely hard at it.

"Just to say, talk about it just me and Trent… it’s a team effort. I’ve heard Trent say the same thing and I couldn’t agree more.

"But yeah, working very well together, to answer your question."

Harbaugh also said he's interested in remaining with the San Francisco 49ers.

"Yeah, I mean, I love coaching this team; I love the players, I love the coaches and the organization that I serve. And want to be here for a very long time."

49ers Hope To Have Kaepernick Extension In Place Before Training Camp

Oct 30, 2014 3:35 AM

The San Francisco 49ers hope to sign Colin Kaepernick to a contract extension before the start of training camp.

Trent Baalke told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., that the 49ers would like to get the deal done before training camp starts in late July.

"We're going to work extremely hard, very diligently in trying to get something done prior to training camp. That's the objective right now, as it stands," Baalke said, according to Comcast Sports Net Bay Area.

"I think there's a lot that he's done that has put him in that position where he should be paid like one of the top quarterbacks in the league," 49ers CEO Jed York said, according to Comcast Sports Net Bay Area. "And I think that's where we'll end up -- whether we get it done now or later. We hope we get it done soon. If we don't, I don't think it's going to be acrimonious."

Kaepernick likely will command a contract that averages in the $18 million to $20 million range.

Harbaugh: Kaepernick Extension 'High Priority' For 49ers

May 29, 2014 9:33 PM

The San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick could agree upon a long-term extension this offseason.

Kaepernick is scheduled to earn $1.073 million in 2014. Backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert has a guaranteed contract of $2.011 million.

“Those things have a process that play out.,” Harbaugh said. “The priority is Colin Kaepernick is a San Francisco 49er for however long we can have him be a San Francisco 49er. It’s definitely a high priority.”

Kaepernick threw for 3,197 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2013. He also rushed for 524 yards.

“Amazing individual. Amazing player,” Harbaugh said. “He shows up and works all the time. There’s really nobody to compete with him in a workout situation. He will bury everybody. And then when somebody tries to compete with him, he just ramps his competitiveness up and somebody’s over there on a knee throwing up.

“He’s unbelievable. As you can tell, I think he’s a special and great player. So it’s a high priority.”
