Jim Harbaugh: I'm Paid Extremely Well

Sep 22, 2014 3:03 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have made a new contract offer to Jim Harbaugh, but he has yet to respond.

"I signed my 10th contract in the National Football League in 2011, so I understand contracts. I understand how contracts work, and what they are there for," Harbaugh said. "I also know that I work at the pleasure of the San Francisco 49ers organization and at the pleasure of the York Family. And I am paid extremely well -- which I am most grateful for, and I am very proud to be part of this organization."

Harbaugh reiterated that he's "never asked to be the highest-paid coach in football" or "like a Super Bowl-winning coach," while emphasizing that he's never demanded "more power."

Aldon Smith Has Been Completely Sober Since Last September

Sep 29, 2014 9:56 PM

Aldon Smith said that he has stayed completely sober since September when he was arrested and charged with drunken driving for the second time since January 2012.

"I've been able to maintain, and it's going good," Smith told reporters when asked about his sobriety. "I'm in the best shape I've been in coming into a camp, and my mind is probably in the best spot it's been in, so I'm feeling great."

Smith voluntarily missed five games last season when he entered a substance-abuse treatment center.

Smith will meet with Roger Goodell in the near future.

In October in London, Goodell told reporters that the league might consider Smith's aggressive approach to his problem could be considered when potential discipline would be addressed.

"That's in their hands," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of a potential NFL suspension. "They will discipline if they feel he warrants it."

Smith was arrested for an alleged fake bomb threat at LAX and no charges were pressed.

Joe Staley Agrees To Extension With 49ers Through 2019

Jul 20, 2014 6:03 AM

Joe Staley has agreed upon a two-year contract extension that runs through 2019.

Staley has been a Pro Bowl left tackle in each of the past three seasons.

General manager Trent Baalke said in a statement that Staley's "commitment and professionalism have been great assets to our team and our community. This extension reflects our philosophy of investing in our core players."

"We both felt it was time to get something done, and what I'm most excited about is the opportunity to play my whole entire career as a San Francisco 49er," Staley said later on a conference call with reporters. "That was one of my goals that I set out to do as a rookie coming into the NFL -- make an NFL roster, become a starter, win a Super Bowl and play my whole entire career with one team.

"So very excited for the opportunity to do that and really grateful for the 49ers allowing me that opportunity. Now it's really just time to go work on that Super Bowl."

Goodell Broaches Possibility Of Raiders Sharing Levi's Stadium

Sep 3, 2014 7:52 AM

At the San Francisco 49ers' ribbon cutting ceremony for Levi's Stadium, Roger Goodell broached the possibility of the Oakland Raiders also sharing the facility.

Goodell said it's up to the Raiders to decide whether they want to try to build a stadim in Oakland or share the facility in Santa Clara.

Raiders owner Mark Davis has said he doesn't want to be a renter in the 49ers' facility, which is now fitted with red seats and posters of past and present San Francisco greats.

"They have to make that determination, whether they're in a new stadium in Oakland or whether they feel that it's best to join this stadium," Goodell said, according to the Bay Area Sports Guy, who tweeted the commissioner's remarks. "We're working on that, and that's one of the decisions they'll have to make."

Alex Boone Won't Report Without New Deal From 49ers

Jul 14, 2014 11:30 AM

Alex Boone will not report to the San Francisco 49ers' training camp until he has a new deal.

Boone, rated as the third best guard in the NFL in 2013 by PFF, skipped last month's three-day minicamp in hopes of getting a new contract.

The 49ers have shown no interest in tearing up existing contracts to meet the demands of its players.

Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree also have contract situations the 49ers must address in the near future.
