Rams Hoping To Get Cooper Kupp Back In Week 5

Sep 28, 2023 8:36 AM

Sean McVay says it is "the hope" that Cooper Kupp will be able to come off of injured reserve when the Los Angeles Rams face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5.

Kupp has missed the Rams' first three games of the season with a hamstring injury and is eligible to return from IR after Week 4.

The wide receiver first injured his hamstring Aug. 1 during a training camp practice and experienced a setback prior to the start of the season.

McVay said he didn't "want to pigeonhole" himself by saying that Kupp would be able to play in Week 5, but that the wide receiver is progressing and "ramping up his workload."

"He's doing a great job with [VP of sports medicine Reggie Scott] and his group, but when you're talking about returning to performance and returning to play, those are different things," McVay said. "And we want him to be able to return to performance at the level that he's capable of.

"And so we're continuing to take it a day at a time. I know he's doing everything in his power to be able to get himself ready to go and get out there with his teammates, and hopefully next week will represent that."

Rams Put Cam Akers On Trading Block

Sep 18, 2023 9:15 AM

The Los Angeles Rams are looking to trade Cam Akers after making the running back inactive for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a report.

A former second-round pick, Akers helped the Rams win the Super Bowl during his second season after recovering from an Achilles injury.

He rushed for a career-high 786 yards and seven touchdowns last year despite asking for a trade during the first half of the season.

Akers rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in Week 1.

Rams' Puka Nacua Sets Record With 15-Catch Effort

Sep 18, 2023 8:59 AM

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua caught 15 passes for 147 yards in the team's 30-23 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, breaking the NFL's single-game record for receptions by a rookie and setting an overall league mark with 25 catches in the first two games of his career.

One week after he recorded 10 catches for 119 yards in his NFL debut, Nacua -- with his 10th catch on Sunday -- eclipsed Earl Cooper's record, set in 1980, for most receptions by a player through his first two games.

On the next play, Nacua broke the 100-yard receiving mark to become the first player to record 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards in each of his first two NFL games.

"He's a stud," Sean McVay said. "The game makes sense to him. Physically and mentally tough. Works really hard. He's very inquisitive. He asks a lot of questions, and he's got great guys to be able to lean on.

"His rapport with [quarterback] Matthew [Stafford], where they're able to bounce things off of one another, I think that's been a real positive, and Puka's going to continue to improve."

Sean McVay Hints Cooper Kupp Has Nerve Issue

Sep 7, 2023 9:22 AM

The Los Angeles Rams will be without Cooper Kupp for at least one week due to a hamstring injury.

Sean McVay suggested the root of the injury could be a nerve issue.

"I would just say this, it's trying to just figure out what's going on with him,” McVay said when asked about the reason for Kupp's recent visit to a specialist in Minnesota. "

Again, I'm kind of speaking out of turn. I just know that we're trying to open up every avenue in regards to figuring out what's going on, why is he feeling some of the sensations and things like that in his hamstring. Is it soft tissue? Is there something nerve-wise? And I would be speaking out of turn.

"I think we're really trying to be able to figure that out. He felt like he gained a lot of information, was able to do a couple day's worth of treatment that was beneficial, but it wasn't anything that's like, OK, he's going to be back right now. And we had a feeling that there could be a couple weeks that we need to just be able to take it a day at a time and then hopefully we'll start to see some positive results as it relates to how he's feeling, what that means for his rehab program and as far as like a timetable, it could be anywhere between if we decide to put him on IR or it could be a couple weeks. But as soon as I have that information, I'll let you guys know. And I know he wants to be out there badly, and we want him to be out there but we don't want to rush it either."

Cooper Kupp Visits Hamstring Specialist

Sep 4, 2023 3:05 PM

Cooper Kupp visited a specialist in Minnesota on Monday in hopes of figuring out his hamstring issues.

The visit comes after Kupp had a setback with his hamstring injury last week.

"I think you just move forward, and you have to be able to operate with the situation and the guys we do have and if he's able to go then that's outstanding for us and, if not, then that's kind of how we've been operating it," Sean McVay said.

"I think the most important thing is that whenever he's ready to take the field, whether that be this week, whether that be Week 2, whatever it is, as long as he's able to have that return to performance, he's feeling like the Cooper Kupp that we all know and love and he's got some clarity on what is really going on, I think that will be a really good situation for us."

Kupp played nine games last season before a season-ending ankle injury but led the NFL in receptions (145), yards (1,947) and touchdowns (16) in 2021.

Cooper Kupp Suffers Setback, Rams List Him As Day-To-Day

Sep 1, 2023 8:31 AM

Cooper Kupp suffered a setback in his return from a hamstring injury and is day-to-day, according to Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay.

"I think we just take it a day at a time right now," McVay said. "We want to be able to get him back right. We're obviously a much better team when he's available."

Kupp initially suffered the injury on Aug. 1 and returned to practice just last week. McVay was noncommittal about Kupp's availability for the Sept. 10 opener.

"There's a difference between return to play and return to performance," McVay said.

"We want return to performance for Cooper Kupp. We know how special a player, special of a person, and so we want to make sure we are smart with that and getting him back to feeling like the Cooper Kupp we all know and that he's able to play the way that he's capable of, whenever that is. Whether that is Sept. 10th or not, we'll continue to monitor that and control what we can control."
