Rams Hire Mike LaFleur As Offensive Coordinator

Jan 27, 2023 11:54 AM

The Los Angeles Rams have hired Mike LaFleur as offensive coordinator.

LaFleur spent last season as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets.

Sean McVay continues to call the plays for the Rams, which makes the offensive coordinator job with the team a slightly lesser position.

Aaron Donald Says He'll Play Next Season

Jan 19, 2023 8:58 AM

Aaron Donald says he plans to play football next season.

Donald caused a stir on social media when he changed his Twitter bio to say that he's a "former" NFL defensive lineman, then he changed it back to "NFL D Lineman for the [Los Angeles] Rams."

Responding to a tweet that played a podcast clip of Donald's former teammate Chris Long saying that Donald will play this season, Donald indicated that Long is correct.

“Tell em C Lo [Chris Long] yeah I'm playn never said I wasn't," Donald wrote on Twitter.

What Donald hasn't clarified is whether or not he wants to be part of a potential rebuild with the Rams.

Rams To Pick Up Matthew Stafford's Option Bonus

Jan 14, 2023 10:20 PM

The Los Angeles Rams will pick up the 2023 option bonus and 2024 salary of Matthew Stafford by the third day of the league year.

The option bonus and 2024 salary will pay Stafford a combined $62 million in guaranteed money.

The Rams could have designated Stafford a post-June 1 cap casualty had they decided not to pick up the option, which would have counted him $13.5 million against their cap in 2023 and an additional $36 million in 2024.

Stafford will return for at least one more season under Sean McVay.

Stafford, who turns 35 next month, ended the season on injured reserve with a spinal cord contusion and twice spent time in the concussion protocol.

Sean McVay has told the Los Angeles Rams he will remain as head coach in 2023.

McVay previously said he would take a few days to make a decision on his future.

Sean McVay Won't Put Timeline On Decision

Jan 10, 2023 8:20 AM

It sounds more and more likely that Sean McVay will leave the Los Angeles Rams, but the coach won't put a timeline on his decision.

"I told the coaching staff, [we'll] work through some things," McVay said.

"You don't want to rush into any sort of decision. There's a lot of emotion right after the season. There's a lot of layers to this. There's a lot of people that it does affect that I don't take lightly and want to be mindful of and so I'm going to take the next couple days to really be able to kind of reflect. Obviously, a lot of conversations with various people that will dictate and determine the decision that's best for me, my family, the Rams, and a lot of people and that's kind of where we're at with that."

Although McVay plans to take "the next couple days," he also made it clear there's no specific deadline for making a decision.

"I don't want to put a timeline on it," McVay said. "I think what I'd like to do is be able to take the appropriate time. [I've] never gone through anything like this, but you want to make sure that you're considerate of the people that are affected. That that's the most important thing. The consistent conversations and dialogues that have existed with the people that I love and really care about, 'Hey, do what you think is best for you and Veronika.' But that doesn't mean it takes away the empathy, the level of responsibility that I do feel for the people that would be affected as it relates to my decision moving forward. And so those are the things that you don't take lightly. You want to be able to make sure that you're intentional about taking the appropriate time, while also making a decision in a manner that's considerate of those people that would be affected."

Sean McVay Will Consider Stepping Away From Rams

Jan 8, 2023 10:40 AM

Sean McVay will take some time after the final game of the Los Angeles Rams' season to determine whether he will return in 2023.

McVay has gone back and forth on the decision and needs time to get away to process the past year. McVay won the Super Bowl last February and was courted to work in television. McVay got married and also saw his wife's home country of Ukraine invaded. The Rams then had a disappointing season.

McVay is under contract through the 2026 season.

Bobby Wagner On Seattle Return: They 'Gave Up' On Me

Jan 5, 2023 8:30 AM

As he prepares to return to Seattle to play his former team, Bobby Wagner admitted there would be "a lot of emotions" facing the Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.

One of the reasons, he said, is that playing the Seahawks is "playing the organization that you felt gave up on you."

Wagner felt disrespected by the way the Seahawks handled his release in March.

The Los Angeles Rams linebacker remained upset even after Pete Carroll and John Schneider took public blame for their roles in the matter, saying a few weeks later that Wagner deserved better given everything he'd meant to the Seahawks during his decade in Seattle.

Arguably the best defensive player in Seahawks history, Wagner owns the franchise's all-time tackles record, and he made eight Pro Bowls and was named a first-team All-Pro six times.
