Sean McVay: Rams 'Unanimous' On Keeping Matthew Stafford

Jul 27, 2023 9:06 AM

The Los Angeles Rams were "unanimous" in the decision to keep Matthew Stafford this offseason, says Sean McVay.

Stafford signed a four-year, $160 million extension with L.A. in 2022. He then struggled through injuries as the Rams flopped in the wake of their Super Bowl victory.

"There was a consistent and unanimous dialogue and understanding," McVay said. "When that March deadline came in terms of him being due the bonus that he's deserved and that he's earned, we were all in unanimous agreement that we wanted him to be the quarterback."

McVay added: "I know I can certainly speak for all of us and say we're excited as hell about Matthew Stafford. It's been great to see him feeling good, and I'm certainly really glad he's our quarterback, and that's where we're at."

Matthew Stafford Declined Rams' Ask To Restructure Contract

Jul 18, 2023 12:38 PM

Matthew Stafford rejected an overture from the Los Angeles Rams to restructure his contract this offseason.

Stafford signed with the Rams on a four-year, $160 million extension in 2022 that included $63 million guaranteed at signing and another $57 million that became fully guaranteed in March 2023.

“I was told by a source I trust that they wanted to re-do his contract,” Colin Cowherd said, via USA Today. “He wasn’t interested. It limits what they can do and they were frustrated with him.”

Stafford's $31 million salary for 2024 is already fully guaranteed.
