Harbaugh Okay With Kaepernick Being Motivated By Negative Energy

May 18, 2014 10:27 AM

Jim Harbaugh is fine with Colin Kaepernick using negative comments on Twitter to fuel his motivation.

"Energy is energy," Harbaugh told reporters. "And there's positive energy, there's negative energy. And sometimes a person can get more energy from negative energy. Sometimes that can be a gift. Thank You."

Kaepernick had an outstanding performance in Week 1 and has been uneven in the three subsequent weeks.

Aldon Smith To Take Indefinite Leave Of Absence

Oct 11, 2014 6:59 PM

Aldon Smith will be placed on the San Francisco 49ers' non-football injury list as he voluntarily enters a treatment facility.

"He will take an indefinite leave of absence," owner Jed York told reporters Sunday.

Smith played in Sunday's loss by the 49ers to the Colts despite being arrested on Friday morning under suspicion of driving under the influence.

"First off, I wanted to apologize to the team, to the organization, my family everybody I let down," Smith said. "I also wanted to let it be known that this is a problem, and this is something I will get fixed and do everything in my power to never let this happen again. I also wanted to let everybody know once again that I am sorry, and like I said, this won't happen again."

49ers Using Read-Option Sparingly

Oct 1, 2014 2:37 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have used the read-option on just 16 snaps this season, gaining 26 yards.

The 49ers have averaged 0.6 yards before first contact compared to 5.6 yards before contact last season.

“We really haven’t placed a big emphasis on the read-option to this point in the season,” offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. “But that could change.”

The read-option seems to be most effective when it is least expected instead of as a core element of the offense.

Kaepernick Struggles When Pressure Comes From Right

Dec 14, 2014 3:00 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have found a formula in limiting Colin Kaepernick's effectiveness.

The Seahawks repeatedly forced Kaepernick to stay in the pocket and pressured him from the right.

In pressuring him from that side, Kaepernick is forced to run to his left, creating a harder throw for a right-handed quarterback to complete.

Seahawks Limited Kaepernick By Taking Away Easy Options

Oct 31, 2014 7:23 AM

The Seattle Seahawks had a fairly simple plan in containing Colin Kaepernick in sending only a base pass rush to not give him easy options to receivers.

The Seahawks blitzed just five times on 35 drop-backs, resulting in one scramble and a passing line of 3-for-4 for 45 yards.

When they sent their base pass rush, Kaepernick was 10-for-24 for 82 yards, three interceptions and all three of Seattle's sacks.

The San Francisco 49ers' receivers were unable to create separation against the Seahawks' secondary.

McDonald's Recreates Jordan/Bird Commercial With Kaepernick/Flacco

Oct 8, 2014 3:24 AM

McDonald's is recreating its legendary Michael Jordan/Larry Bird commercial from the early 1990s by having Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco compete in an improbable shoot-off for its Might Wings chicken.

"It's a fresh take on an idea our customers have loved, but in a sport they haven't seen us do it with," said Marlena Peleo-Lazar, chief creative officer at McDonald's USA.

"What made a good story the first time around was the magic between Jordan and Bird — the chemistry felt real," managing director of consulting firm Landor Associates Allen Adamson says. "This has the foundation to be a big idea, but it all depends on getting the details right."

The spot debuts on Monday night.

Sherman: Sportsmanship Doesn't Go Both Ways With Harbaugh

Oct 27, 2014 3:46 PM

Jim Harbaugh snubbed former Stanford player Richard Sherman following the Seattle Seahawks' 29-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Sherman ran up to Harbaugh at midfield and gave him a pat on the rear.

"I told him good job, good game, but he didn't give me nothing back," Sherman told NFL Network. "I guess sportsmanship doesn't go both ways."

Sherman said in July that he no longer has a relationship with Harbaugh.

"I didn't realize it was him until he was moving in the other direction," Harbaugh said, according to NFL.com. "He came up and patted me on the back, and I congratulated him, and same with Doug [Baldwin]. I congratulate the Seahawks, they played a hell of a game."
