Lattimore Unlikely To Participate In 49ers' Camp

Sep 25, 2014 11:19 AM

Marcus Lattimore will be patient as he recovers from two major knee procedures.

Lattimore is unlikely to participate in the San Francisco 49ers' training camp in July.

"You know, we come back in late July. Been running sprints, you know, got a chance to get in there with the guys a little bit, that felt good. Probably won't do training camp. You know, just on course with the trainer and my doctor. Get a chance to practice midseason and see what happens."

Kaepernick Attempting To Find Balance Between Workouts, Rest

Oct 7, 2014 1:09 PM

Colin Kaepernick is attempting to find a balance between pushing himself in workouts and ensuring he gets enough rest before the start of training camp.

“That’s the balance I’m trying to find,” Kaepernick said. “Can I get big, can I get strong and still remain flexible enough to go out and throw the ball well?”

49ers Sign Greg Roman To Two-Year Extension

Dec 7, 2014 5:18 AM

Greg Roman has signed a two-year extension with the San Francisco 49ers, taking him through the 2015 season.

Roman was a candidate for several head coaching positions, but the 49ers' Super Bowl run surely played a part in his ability to be fully considered.

The 49ers had Roman on a team-friendly contract signed in 2011 due to his relative inexperience. His new deal does not prohibit Roman from interviewing for head coaching positions.

Justin Smith Signs Two-Year Extension With 49ers

Nov 22, 2014 3:09 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have signed Justin Smith to a two-year extension.

"Justin's All-Pro contributions on the field, as well as his leadership on and off the field, are integral to our success," general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement.

Smith signed a six-year, $45 million contract in 2008 and has been incredibly productive for the 49ers.

"You really can't forecast anything out past the year you're in," Smith said. "So I'm thinking about 2013, and 2013 only."

Jim Harbaugh Has 'Noticed' Seahawks' PED Issues

Jul 26, 2014 2:19 AM

Jim Harbaugh spoke on Tuesday about the inordinate number of performance enhancing drug suspensions that have hit the Seattle Seahawks.

"I've definitely noticed it," Harbaugh said in comments distributed by the San Francisco 49ers. "You don't know what it is. Even when people say what it is, you don't know that that's what it is. For this, throw it out, or it's that. But, that's usually the agents of the players themselves saying it's, for example Adderall.

"But, the NFL doesn't release what it actually is. So, you have no idea. You're taking somebody at their word, that I don't know that you can take them at their word, understanding the circumstances."

Pete Carroll looked to downplay the story when reached to reply.

"We've kind of dealt with this to set into motion a really clear mindset to take care of business and treat this situation that is around the league very seriously. I don't know about commenting about anybody else's team, but as far as we're concerned we feel like we've addressed it directly," Carroll said via the Associated Press.

Raiders Badly Wanted To Draft Colin Kaepernick

Oct 31, 2014 2:15 PM

The Oakland Raiders were interesting in drafting Colin Kaepernick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

"I think about it all the time, believe me," Hue Jackson on Sunday. "No question in my mind we wanted it to happen, and no question I thought it could happen. We wanted the kid in the worst way."

The San Francisco 49ers selected Kaepernick with the 36th overall pick.

"Coach Jackson told me before the draft they were going to do everything they could to try to get me,'' said Kaepernick. "I thought there was a good chance they'd pick me. I never heard anything from the 49ers before the draft after I worked out for them [at Nevada]. I just figured they weren't interested."

The Raiders have Kaepernick as their top-rated quarterback on their board in that draft, ahead of Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder and Andy Dalton.

The 49ers knew the Raiders were interested in Kaepernick and traded ahead of them with the Broncos to have a shot at drafting him.

Kaepernick's father said he heard Al Davis threw a glass across the room when the 49ers selected him.

"I don't know that he threw anything,'' said Jackson. "But he was upset. So was I. Scouting him, I fell in love with the kid. Leader, won a ton of games at Nevada, really impressive when you talked to him, strong, all the tools to win in the NFL. No doubt in my mind he was going to be good."

If the Raiders had drafted Kaepernick, they likely would have made him their starter when Jason Campbell was injured instead of trading for Carson Palmer.
