49ers Not Presently Interested In Pursuing Revis

Oct 21, 2014 3:42 AM

The San Francisco 49ers are not interested in pursuing a trade for Darrelle Revis at this time, according to source.

The New York Jets are contemplating a trade of Revis this offseason.

Revis will require a new deal by next offseason.

The 49ers' trade of Alex Smith to the Chiefs this week put them in prime position to make a major secondary trade.

Chiefs Agree To Trade For Alex Smith

Oct 21, 2014 3:42 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade for Alex Smith with the San Francisco 49ers.

The deal cannot become official until Mar. 12.

The 49ers will get a No. 2 pick in this year's draft and a similar pick in 2014, according to a source that spoke with Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News.

Smith lost his job as starting quarterback of the 49ers to Colin Kaepernick following a concussion. Kaepernick quickly ended the controversy with several signature performances and eventually led the 49ers to an appearance in the Super Bowl.

With this bold trade, Andy Reid is clearly gambling his success with the Chiefs on the performance of Smith.

The Browns, Cardinals and Jaguars were the other teams believed to be interested in trading for Smith.

Harbaugh: 49ers Have Best QB Situation In NFL

Oct 31, 2014 6:33 AM

Jim Harbaugh believe the San Francisco 49ers are dealing from a position of strength when it comes to the quarterback position.

The 49ers will start Colin Kaepernick at quarterback next season and at least appear willing to keep Alex Smith if they are unable to find a trade.

"Alex is really playing the best football of his career the last two years. We think we got the best quarterback situation in the National Football League, feel strongly about that. Again, that’ll be a process that plays out. Alex Smith continuing to be a 49er or if a trade occurs in the next weeks or months. Those are the two possibilities, most likely possibilities.”

Harbaugh was explicitly asked if it is unlikely that Smith will be released.

"That's unlikely," said Harbaugh.

49ers Could Prefer Alex Smith Trade To Keep Him From Cardinals

Jun 14, 2014 3:54 AM

The San Francisco 49ers believe they can trade Alex Smith this offseason.

Smith, however, received relatively little interest last offseason as a free agent.

A team would need to send compensation to the 49ers, plus pay Smith his $8.5 million salary.

The 49ers could elect to steer Smith out of their division, for example, trading him to the Cleveland Browns in order to keep him from the Arizona Cardinals.
